nash makes his team better by getting everyone involved

well part of the reason is that Nash makes his team better. This can be witnessed by when he sits out a team with 2 other all-stars (amare and marion) can't beat the hawks.

That is not to say that the Lakers would not suck without kobe, but the suns are one of the better teams in the league and to loose to the hawks b/c they didn't have nash means a lot. The lakers on the other hand could possibly loose to the hawks if they had kobe.

Another reason is because of his assists. If you assume every assist is a 2-point basket (which it is not) then that means that Nash is directly responsible for 43 points a night. Kobe on the other hand is responsible for 42. Not much of a difference, but it still points in Nash's favour. It should also be noted that Nash plays 5.5 min a night less than kobe, so per 48 min Nash becomese even more productive than kobe.

Another reason is that Nash is an extremley accurate shooter. His fg% is 53 and his 3pt is 45. Kobe's fg on the other hand is 46% and 3pt is 34%. Still very good numbers, but Nash's are better. It is true that kobe has to take much tougher shots then Nash because he has weaker teammates but that cannot be factored into percentages unfortunately.

Kobe is also at a disadvantage because the MVP is a bit of a popularity contest. (here is where i get blasted by kobe fans) Kobe's public image is not very strong. First there was the feud with shaq which made him look like an immature kid, then there was the rape case which did not help, then there was Kobe's tantrums about his supporting cast, and although he has a point his actions were very unprofessional, and most recently there has been his trade request and general vocal displeasure with the Lakers. All these events do not make Kobe out to be a very appealing person. Nash on the other hand has been reported to be humble and quiet, a refreshing break from many of the outspoken superstars.

Nash has the greatest positive influence on his team over any other player in the league.

Overall, most people agree Kobe is a better all-around player than Nash (e.g, Kobe plays better D, is a tougher rebounder, etc.). But, even with Kobe, the Lakers barely make it into the playoffs. With Nash, the Suns are title contenders; without Nash, they'd be down where the Lakers are.

By the way, Nash didn't get the MVP award this year; Dirk Nowitzki did.

Because Nash makes players around him better that's why it's called the most valuable player award. If it was given to the most potent scorer every year then A.I., T-Mac, and Kobe would take turns winning it back in the days. The most valuable player takes into account how much of the team's success they are responsible for and the type of impact they have on the team. Nash has made crappy players like Boris Diaw, Raja Bell look good and improve the careers or Quentin Richardson and Joe Johnson. Can Kobe do that? If that was the case, Caron Butler would have became an All-Star in L.A. not Washington. Kobe fans need to start thinking outside the box. It's a team success achievement league, not a individual personal performance league.

I agree with everyone else its because nash is a better all around player. The only thing Kobe does well is score. Nash on the other hand will play defense like no other, he gets the rest of the team involved, he can score, rebound, and just do whatever it takes to win a game. How many times do you see the lakers just standing around watching kobe do what kobe does best. Plus it helps to be on a winning team.

Well thats part of it. I mean MVP is your most valuble player. Have you seen a Suns game without Nash? Like seriously. Sometimes, I think the Suns don't even know what their doing on the court, it's like their minds stop, but when Nash is out there, everything clicks.

Now, you see a Laker game, without Kobe, they struggle a little bit, but you know, they can come out and win the game, so without Kobe, they're ok. So he's not that big of a deal.

Then theres the players individually. Nash, he'll have say 14pts and 20-something assist. Kobe will have 50-60pts and 4 assist. Nash can see his players on the floor while Kobe just goes past them and takes the shot himself.

NASH ALL THE WAYYYYY!!!!

Nash is definitely a better overall player than Kobe. Kobe is a scoring machine, at times he pretty much IS the Lakers, just him. Nash is a team player, and can score as well as pass. I think I saw that the last few seasons his stats were right up there with by I believe they said Magic Johnson's were with his scoring and assists per game.

Exactly. The MVP award isn't all about who scores the most points but who can be versatile. And, I don't want to hear that Kobe didn't have help. Kobe had help, Kobe has help: I'm not a mind reader so I couldn't tell you why he doesn't use his help. But, anyway; I didn't think that Steve deserved the MVP title the last time he got it, anyway. Nothing against Steve: I just felt that others had a better chance than he did.

Steve Nash gets MVP's because his team is better and because he gets his team more involved while Kobe is a great scorer and he gets his team involved sometimes. I personally think that Kobe should get the MVP sometimes because no one player does more for their team than Kobe. Think about it the lakers without Kobe would've been in the lottery this year. The suns would've made it to the playoffs

Its because Nash can score and get assists and Kobe just hogs the ball. Also the suns dont rely on just Nash like the Lakers do.

Mainly b/c Nash is more of a team player. He gets everyone involved with his assists and his team has had better winning records than Kobe and his Lakers. Scoring is an individual accomplishment and it takes two to make an assist!!
