It is easy to say every civilization and religion has a pretty long history of torturing people in one form or another.

No no no, we have to make sure gov'ts admit their past mistakes, cant have otherwise; but the church is obviously exempt from this-just look at how they teach the Crusades now. Despite all the evidence most churches still say that at least the 1st Crusade was justified.
I dont think they have "long, proud" history of it, theyre ashamed just like Germany was of the Holocaust, that is why they dont admit it. However they need to, because otherwise it will happen yet again on a large scale.
I do believe they are peaceful now anyway.

I actually really like Lola's answer. It admits that the problem is there while saying why it is a problem only for some. You'll notice that those incidents of violence are usually fueled by people doing it for political or economic reasons-the majority of people involved are just having incorrect info about their religion taught to them (like militant Islam) and dont know any better. It isnt a problem with the church itself, it was problems with individual people and groups within the church that were allowed to get out of hand.

Christianity (found only in the Bible and not in religions) does not have a history of torturing anyone, at any time, for any reason. Catholic religion and Christianity of the Bible are two different things and yes the Catholic religion does have a long and ugly history of torturing and murdering anyone who disagrees with it, same as Islam... like two peas in a pod.
There are hundreds, maybe even thousands, of Christian religions (Catholic and protestant) out there. Each of which was created by Satan to keep us away from genuine Christianity which is found only in the Bible. There's a religion for everyone, for whatever someone wants to believe about God and heaven. How sad that people just don't read the Bible to find out the truth about God, but take Satan's preachers and priests words for it instead.

Yes...We can't just limit torture to Christianity. Islam and Judaism are also part of this axis of evil, ( to coin a phrase). These religious cults have suppressed humanity for centuries. Even today their intolerance and bigotry suppresses medical progress and the scientific community. Their hold on the superstitions of the world have created more war and turmoil than any other reason or group of factions in history. These god/demon/satan/ hallucinations have hindered the positive evolution of society and hopefully we're seeing a renaissance of logic and reason on the horizon.

I'm unclear as to what your point is. So, because there is torture in the history of Christianity we all believe in torture? You can't be that simple can you? Believe it or not this Jesus guy is also in the "history of Christianity", I choose to follow His example. Grow up.

I would say a history not necessarily that long and I would think it hard to find many who are proud of that past as well. But just like anything in the past we must learn from it and move on. When we dwell on the past instead of taking lessons we are abandoning our present. Christianity has done many things that are horrors in manys eyes but they have also done many charitable works as well. Christianity's past is steeped in hate and violence but so is most religion and politics. Religion is not the only ideology that has a history of violence. God Bless.

I think you'll find that religion did not invent torture. Evil people will use religion, economics, tribe, race, color, creed or any other lame excuse to harm their fellow man for their own self-interest.
For the most part, religion used properly is the only cure for the immorality of man. If it weren't for religion, we'd still be these Darwinist animals we were before we learned about the beliefs of the spirit and religion.

What's your point? Yes, in the Medieval times there was religious bloodshed. Look a little closer at your history book. It wasn't only Catholics waging a religious war.

Wow! I think it's amazing that even folks from the 15th century have access to the internet!!
H-E-L-L-O!! HOW ARE YOU? HOW ARE THINGS IN SPAIN? SOON YOU WILL SHIP PEOPLE TO OUR CONTINENT. THEY WILL BE CALLED 'MEXICANS'. THEY WILL MAKE REALLY GOOD FOOD AND MARGARITAS.
Sorry for yelling, but I figure that the reception between the 15th and 21st centuries is a little 'iffy'.
