The manifest life we live has two facets. One is the goal and other the journey! Most human beings in life never carry a goal... a passion indulging in which we feel the pleasure of life... the joy of working! Life is never supposed to be passed by! In the earthly sojourn of 70 to 80 years... we definitely must live a life of choice!

We always need remember... we have only "one life to live"... why not spend it at its best! This is possible only when we have a burning desire... a definite goal in life! Almost 95% people existing on Mother Earth never develop a goal in life. Their life is like a rudderless boat going round and round in the ocean! Having a fixed goal in life is journey half covered!

Forming a goal in the early stages of life has its benefits! When young 11 years of age I had a desire to see God in this very life. By 13 my desire turned into firm conviction! Come whatever... in this very life... I shall see and meet God! With no spiritual master to guide, I started on the uncharted path having absolute faith in the entity of God Almighty.

I realized in the early stages of life that our soul atman within manifests the body to work out its karma. When the fruits of the karma do not belong to the body but the soul atman within... why not work as a trustee throughout life. As stated in Bhagavad Gita (the most sacred Scripture of Hinduism existing on Mother Earth) everything belongs to God Almighty.

In truth we are but a pawn in the hands of God Almighty. Why run after wanton desires and materialistic riches that shall not belong to me after the body passes away. JRD Tata was a trustee par excellence! In his lifetime he never made a house. He lived in the presidential suite of his Taj Mahal Hotel. His advice to all was... never indulge in the affairs of his!

Living life as a trustee is the best philosophy in life! This is the only way we can live our life Nishakama karma way! Carrying out our karma without indulging in the fruits thereof is what life is all about! Most human beings spend their precious lifetime accumulating material riches beyond requirements! When comes the time to leave... all is left behind! More on One life to live - http://www.godrealized.org/one_life_to_live.html

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who make excuses and those who get results. An excuse person will find any excuse for why a job was not done, and a results person will find any reason why it can be done. Be a creator, not a reactor. -- Alan Cohen, A Deep Breath Of Life

You can't have a better tomorrow if you are thinking about yesterday all the time. -- Charles F. Kettering

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. -- Eleanor Roosevelt

The hardest challenge is to be yourself in a world where everyone is trying to make you be somebody else. -- E. E. Cummings

My dad always used to say, "If you're falling off a cliff, you may as well try to fly. You have nothing to lose." -- Captain John Sheridan, Babylon 5

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. -- Albert Einstein

The best of advice and the most necessary is that you do not forget your Lord, and that you remember Him always, and do not rebel against Him, and that you should worship Him whether sitting or standing. Do not be dazzled by His blessings and always be grateful to Him. Do not go out from under the protective cover of His mercy, immensity and majesty, lest you go astray and fall into the field of destruction, even if affliction and adversity touch you and the fires of trials burn you. Know that the afflictions He sends are filled with the eternal marks of His honour, and that the trials He inflicts bring about His pleasure and nearness, even though it may be after some time. What blessings there are for the person who has knowledge, and who is granted success therein!

It is related that when someone asked the Messenger of God for advice, he said, 'Never get angry, for anger contains opposition to your Lord. Beware of making excuses, for they contain hidden polytheism. Say your prayers like someone saying farewell, for it contains a link to God and nearness to Him. Be modest before God as you are modest before the righteous among your neighbours, for this contains increased certainty.'

God has gathered up the advice of all our ancestors, both distant and near, into one single characteristic and that is Precaution (taqwa)

In the words of Almighty God,

وَلَقَدْ وَصَّيْنَا الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَابَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمْ أَنِ اتَّقُواْ اللّهَ

Certainly We enjoined those who were given the Book before you, and [We enjoin] you too that you should be careful of [your duty]. (4:131)

This is the sum of every sound act of worship: it is by precaution that people reach the high degrees and highest ranks. It is by precaution that people lead a good life with constant companionship.

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَهَرٍ فِي مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ

Surely those who guard [against evil] shall be in gardens and rivers, in the seat of honour with a most powerful King.
(54:54-5)

It's the most cliche one, but in reality it will fix our political problems and our social issues and our relationships and all other inter and intra-personal antics. I will work no matter matter what religion you are, or what political affiliations you have or what your background is.... if we just:
Treat others as we'd want to be treated.
Imagine what the world would be like if everyone did this.

"My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and his reason as his only absolute."

there is a zen teaching which particularly got my attention,
it goes something like this: "kill the buddha as you meet him, kill the father as you meet him."

the way i understood it, you should keep an open mind and listen to everything, think on what others are saying, but in the end, you will have to decide on your own regardless of what others are saying.

Learn how to laugh at yourself. You're probably the biggest fool of them all, or at least a close second.

Don't do unto other what you would not have done to yourself.
Very simple, very difficult, very universally applicable, not necessarily religion-inspired rule. So how come we hurt each other so much?
