I had Essure done back in 2004. No, you do not need to be on the depo shot. You do need to have a back up form of birth control, though. Use condoms religiously. You would use the birth control for the 3 months after the Essure procedure, and then an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) is done in which dye is injected via the cervix while an x-ray is done to check and make sure that your tubes are definitely blocked.

Why is your doctor making you have the Essure done for the fibroid? Essure is a permanent form of birth control, it is not a treatment for fibroids. I have a hx of fibroids and polyps, and have had them removed. Essure will not affect them.

You aren't planning to have children? I suggest you speak to your gyn, possibly another one for a second opinion to find out what is being done and WHY it's being done. This doesn't make sense to me.

Good luck.

Not sure how essure is going to help the fibroid. Essure is sticking a metal thing in your tubes to cause scar tissue which will block them. The depo would be used until they are sure there is complete blockage.

I would definitely get a second opinion.

You could always seek a second opinion. I personally would not agree to have depo in my system along with another hormonal birth control method.

If essure is a nonhormonal one, then ignore what I just said.

Don't do it, all shots are toxic/poison to your system! You might want to have a kid one day just to find out you can't or somethink might be wrong with it because you got a toxic shot once upon a time, stick with the pill or othe protection. I doubt your doctor even knows what all is in the shot, but I assure you its not good, please don't do it!
