Your TV is a cathode ray tube (unless you have the latest LCD or Plasma type). Even many computer monitors are the CRT type. Cathode rays are emitted from a gun (heated filament) and are accelerated to a high voltage using electrodes. The CRT also has X- and Y - plates or coils to deflect the electron beam so that you can use the electron beam to plot graphs.
Your own text books should be detailed enough and otherwise there are several physics related websites which may help. Try an internet search (even I need to do that only).
