I have a '95 F-150. Has anyone else ever had a problem with the front cross member, under the engine, cracking? I am wondering if i should weld it back up or just sell the truck. Is it likely that maybe it cracked because the whole frame is shifting? Serious answers only please, no "buy a chevy" or anything like that or you will be reported for abuse.

The cracks in the front cross-member are not that uncommon, any good welding shop should be able to repair it. We sell a lot of pickups to farmers and ranchers that beat the h**l out of them and have welded several frames and have had no problems. As for the frame shifting it is possible that one rail got pushed back if you hit something, if that is the case your truck will dog track and anyone driving behind you should be able to tell. If that has happened a body shop can pull it back without any trouble.

Frame cracks can be caused by prior accident damage, off road use, severe service, overloading, metal fatigue, oxidation or extensive snow plow usage just to name a few. Take your pick. A reliable body shop that specializes in frame straightening and repair would be the optimum choice as a quality repair is necessary to ensure safety standards. Be advised that no vehicle manufacturer will warranty a vehicle frame that has had welding repairs performed.

It just means someone has gone over a lot of bumps with the vehicle over loaded. Get it welded and it will be fine for another 10 years or so.

"Serious answers only please, no 'buy a chevy' or anything like that or you will be reported for abuse" will only set you up to get that type of answer. I'd suggest leaving it off since it just increases the problem.

I wouldn't keep it if I were you. You could weld it up and brace it a little but if the frame is cracking, do you want to sell it when it completely cracks. Get a new one.

I would just weld it. If you do it yourself make sure you prep the crack before you weld it. best thing is to have someone that knows what they are doing. Make sure to paint it after it is all done. You could also have your framed checked. If it is the frame and they adjust it make sure to also check the alignment after wards
