There is no question that Utley will be a big loss, they need his bat in the line-up. However, the Phillies can fill his spot with Nunez, Dodds, or someone from their farm system. An even bigger problem will be to find some pitching if they are looking to make a run this year.

I doubt it. I think the Phillies will try to make a trade, but something of the small garden variety. Most likely they will try to send a mid-level prospect to a struggling team for a veteran IF backup. With Nunez starting at second base, the Phillies are left without any reserve middle infielders. If anything like this would happen again (hope not anyway...), they would have no recourse and be really stuck. Nunez is a solid defender and isn't entirely overmatched by big league pitching, so they probably won't break the bank for a band-aid replacement for Chase. They do need help, though. With Miguel Tejada coming back in Baltimore, it would seem to make sense to make an offer for veteran MI Chris Gomez, who is a very capable backup and could even challenge Nunez for the starting job at 2B.
Even without Utley, the Phillies offense features Victorino, J-Ro, a resurgent Pat Burrell, and of course the monstrosity that is Ryan Howard. The loss of their all-star second baseman might mean they no longer have the BEST offense in the NL. So now they're what? Maybe 3rd? Unless Howard keeps hitting 4 HR a week, in which case they're still the best...

I hope the Phils get bullpen help, Clearly Jose Mesa isn't as good as he used to but if both Brett Myers and Tom Gordon come back healthy, this could be the equivilant of making a big deal w/o giving up prospects. Pitching is the key and the Mets need to choke and hope the Braves don't get Mark Texiera

NO..have you ever seen this f*ing ownership or management do anything worth while. I feel like hunting down that little prick Nats pitcher and beating him bloody for drilling Utley and then trying to do it to Howard also. He needs his tail kicked. He better hope he is not around the next time the Phils play. Get Brett Myers on the mound or Cole Hamels and just hit him with a fastball up and in.

There was talk on one of the Phillies TV shows about a prospect (Adrian Cardenas) that they have at second base who is doing very well in the minors. I would imagine that he is way too inexperienced to throw up into the majors right now though.

There is not "a lot" of bullpen help to get. This will be a pretty quiet trading season and I am not sure that the Phillies will be buyers in the market, I think they will stay quiet. Maybe one trade but it will be minor.

the only REAL bullpen help out there is octavio dotel and eric gagne. dotel will go to a CONTENDER, so i count philly out, and i guess you could pick up gagne if you really want him
