In the past 6 years, I have had "mixed" feeling about Texas. I relocated out here from New Jersey in 2001, and let me tell you: the first three years I was so depressed, and hated everything about the state. I don't think I ever really unpacked all my belongings thinking that I was never going to stay permanently. However, I am a "fighter", not a "quitter", and decided to embrace my new home and its surroundings for what it was worth. Almost my whole entire family had moved out here 8 years before me and I missed them so I was determined to make it work some how. I decided to focus on the positive, and here are the things that i have grown to love about Texas:
Fort Worth
Everyone is so friendly
San Antonio
Excellent steak
Excellent mexican food
Lots of Professional opportunities
It's "laid-back"
The cost of living is half of what I am used to!!!!!!

Although New Jersey will always be my "true" home, Texas is soon becoming one of equivalence!

It's extrmely overrated and full of people with huge egos that have a huge inferiority complex when it comes to CA and NY. Some parts of the state are scenic like the Hill Country and the mountains in East Texas but all those things are way too far away from the major metro areas to even enjoy. And the weather has to be some of the worst and most violent in the nation. Plus none of their cities are real cities but just big giant spread out suburbs.

We have the friendliest people, and the most diverse cultures. We have a wide variety of landscapes and weather patterns. We have excellent high rated universities. Contrary to popular belief, Texas is NOT in the South, it is where the West begins. Our state constitution, and the way we joined the U.S. gives us more freedoms and privileges than other states----our flag can fly at the same height as the U.S. flag, our state capitol building is allowed to be as tall as the U.S. Capitol, we still reserve the right to secede if we choose just to name a few. And what's MORE, We love it here and we don't care what anybody else thinks.

P.S. George W Bush is NOT a native Texan....he was born in New Haven, Connecticut.

Texas is great..beautiful countryside...as well as tons of things to go do...like Galveston, San antiono, the river, etc. the weather can change on you in a heartbeat though...one day it can be freezing outside the next like 80 degrees. traffic sucks in houston, but i love it here

Too hot in the summer time, and has a reputation badly tarnished by George Bush, but it's a good place to live
