There's enough scandal in the GOP to make the assertion look ridiculous I thought I'd ask.

NO religous point of view has a lock on either American politicval party, and vice versa.

Not all Republicans think alike. matter of fact i have viewed questions and answers from a couple on this site, that would undoubtedly get them bashed as being liberal or democrat.
The problem here isn't that they think they own the myth, the problem is, that many GOP politicians have made God a political issue, that serves their purpose. Its all about public relations hogwash, and is sacrilege if you ask me.

If you haven't noticed, the GOP will be anit-every-liberal/democrat issue, until that issue becomes very popular. When it does, and doesn't oppose their religious base, they sink millions into the media making it a political issue, and attempt to make it appear as something that has already been a part of their platform, and that democrats have opposed it in the past.
This isn't hard to do when many people think as media as their sole source of research on political issues.
You can find candidates of either party, that have and will oppose/support any issue to fit the argument you wish to promote.

Just like you can find an act, in any person's life to make them appear immoral, especially when moral rules are constantly changing. What wasn't acceptible 100 years ago, is today and vice verse.

Theyre good at getting votes without saying anything of substance. They are masters of getting an emotional response out of people for support while either doing nothing or saying nothing.

Its the same concept as the "War on Drugs." Its a rallying cry that people will spring to in a heartbeat without investigation or thought.

They have aligned with the Moral Majority type of religious right groups--groups that believe they own God as well and that any opposing view is just Satan talking. They know these people are their support base and are very skilled at manipulating them.

There is nothing to see through. All religious philosophy is great theory. Too bad humans cannot execute it.

Communism is the same, really. Great theory and it would be amazing if we could really do it.

Now throw in a bunch of drunken, horny, self-interested humans who just want what they want and you'll see that you cannot be selfless for your fellow man when you act in this manner.

So much for theory. The Republicans are self-interested as well. They allow themselves to be owned and operated by the religious right since they get lots of money from them. They "own" them, all right.

I find it comical that any Republican could dare say that the Democrats as a whole are immoral. It's just too amazing to even try to digest.

We do not own God, I am a Republican, I don't feel that way.

To me, when backed into a corner any Political party will claim to have faith in God, quote scripture, or poke fun at another religion. Sort of like they run out of ideas, so lets blame it all on God, your faith, your lack of faith.. etc.

We do not own God. Like brewmaster said - We worship him. Something you wouldnt know anything about, but if you try it, it could make you a better person so then you wouldnt waste your time asking strangers questions like "Why Republicans think they own God?"

If you liberals would do the same scavenger hunts on your own party members as you do Republican I'm certain you will find enough dirt and smut to fill Lake Erie.

We do? I missed the memo on that. I wonder if His value is up or down... go away until you can learn some manners. Don't worry about us, we'll be fine without you.

I don't really think repubs think they own God but they definately do not support separation of Church and state. I think they would be happier if we had a national religion like old England. And George would be king.

God is His own Person and no man owns Him. He created us and therefore He owns us. Easy to talk the talk but to walk the walk is hard. So therefore this is what makes anyone think they own God should that be the case. But I doubt it that the Republicans think they own God.
