Could mean alot of things. From the simple to something major. Whatever you do dont ignore it. Engine light is an indication that something needs attention right away. Take it to Autozone or similar auto store and they can hook it up to a handheld diagnostic device that will display the code and possibly give a readout of the specific item. If it only gives the code you can go to the library and look it up in a chiltons manual.

Could be just about alot of things. It would be helpful to know how many miles are on the vehicle, but you could be in need of anything from tightening the gas cap to a spark plug to an engine!! You will need to find a reputable person to scan the codes. This is done with a diagnostic computer. They can tell you why the light is on. Basically, all the sensors under the hood monitor what the engine and transmission are doing, and when one reads something that isn't right, it triggers that light. There are literally tens of reasons that it could be on. Get the computer read and go from there. Given the age, I'm going to say that it probably isn't real serious, but before spending alot of money, get the scan done.

Most likely it is nothing serious. I've experienced the light coming on in a Chevy Astro, and cavalier wagon when I accelerated too hard. Shutting the engine of and restarting cleared it. Could be as simple as the gas cap not being tightened. Most auto parts stores will be able to read the computer code for you and let you know what, if anything, the problem is. Good luck :)

No, it simply means that you have a problem and that the tailpipe emissions exceed 1.5 times the FTP limit.

There is a lot of information stored in the PCM that can be retrieved by the proper scan tool that can help diagnose your vehicle's problem. It could relate to anything including the gas cap not being tightened fully after buying gas. Think about anything you may have done (including knocking off a vacuum line while installing a new air filter), and check those areas first, if you loosen and retighten your gas cap, drive around for a few days, if the light goes out, you found the problem, if not, find a guy that specializes in electrical diagnosis and have him or her check it out with a scan tool.

chances are it just a sensor going bad or you got a bad batch of gas or water in it and your o2 sensor didn't like it take it by an out parts store and the can read the code for you and let you know what you need to do and if its serious or not no the engine isn't gone it just need attention and it has nothing to do with your oil or filter but if you need to ask that then its probably time to change your oil

This only means that the PCM or the computer that runs the motor and trans. has detected something that affects the way the systems operate meaning not at optimum efficiency. It means a sensor or wiring or something like that is not working right or the system has been compromised. You have to get the code read by a scanner to find out which system has been detected faulty and start a diagnosis on it. These can be as simple as you forgot to re-install your gas cap tightly or something like your motor has a slight misfire. Good luck.

take it to an auto parts store. they will sometimes have a device they can plug into your vehicle and it will communicate with the engine control computer. your vehicle's computer will give up any fault codes it's holding and you can use that to determine what might be wrong. i think the SES light will blink out a code too. get the book on your vehicle at the auto parts store when you go. it's about $20 and it will tell you how to interpret the code the SES light is blinking. you could also take the vehicle to your local chevy dealer, but they wouldn't do it for free like the parts store most likely will. the parts store is happy to do it for free because it could result in a sale. hope this helps.
