The blackbra is a moron. Mark Teixeira has won a Gold Glove at 1B in '05 and in '06...so to say Salty would be just as good at him at 1B is just STUPID. Big Tex's numbers the last 3 years average .288 38HR 122RBI...you are telling me those are "good numbers" not "great"??? Are you kidding me? If you have been watching ANY Braves games you can see that Salty lookes great as a catcher, but is totally uncomfortable at 1B. The Braves just signed McCann to a long term deal, so Salty is NOT going to catch on a regular basis. He's clearly not going to play 1B if the Braves are playing Julio Franco instead of him there. HELLO!!?? Salty is a great player...no doubt...but his value is at catcher...and he's blocked by McCann. So, the Braves need to trade him now with his stock at its highest value, and go get Big Tex. He'll be with them at least until the end of next year, and with Andruw Jones' contract expiring this year, they'll be able to afford to re-sign him if they don't re-sign Andruw. This is a no brainer deal for Atlanta. Oh...the order will look like this:

Harris
Renteria
Chipper
Tex
Andruw
McCann
Francoeur
K. Johnson

VERY NICE!!!!

The Braves would be fools to trade young catcher/1b Salty for a year of Big Tex. Salty is going to hit 20-30 HR per year for the Braves (or Tex is he's traded...possibly more in Tex, actually). He can also go behind the dish to give All-Star catcher McCann a break every now and then, which will lengthen his career. Salty is also much cheaper. Big Tex is an above average sort of 1B (a 30 HR 1B is good, but not great) and isn't better than Salty at his position. Isn't worth the gamble. Salty's put in his time in the Braves system- why trade him now? And for a Boras contract player? Right...just go ahead and put me in charge already. They don't need some 1B, they need pitching- both starting and relief.

But, if this terrible decision is made, the Braves will look like this-

1 K. Johnson, 2B
2 Renteria, SS
3 C. Jones, 3B
4 Teixeira, 1B
5 A. Jones, CF
6 B. McCann, C
7 J. Francoeur, RF
8 W. Harris/M. Diaz, LF
9

It depends on who is sent to the rangers in the deal. I think they will have Andrew Jones hit 3rd, Chipper 4th, and Teixeria hit 5th. Teixeria is a better player right now than Chipper, but Chipper is still very good. Opposing pitchers would not be able to pitch around any of these guys because of the hitter following them in the lineup. They will pitch to Chipper, and he'll make them pay, or will have the same thing happen with Tex.

Tex will probably hit 3rd or cleanup. He does have ability for extra bases power and the long ball.So wherever Atl puts him in the batting order, the Braves will have a solid lineup. One that will contend with the Mets,Dodgers,Cubs.

Teixeira (4th) would hit behind Chipper (3rd), to give him protection, and Andrew (5th) would probably hit behind Teixeira although I would put Francoeur in the five slot.

A heck of a lot better. Rangers are wanting too much for him, though. I doubt any team is going to ante up his price.
