NASA shaken by sabotage, drinking claims

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - America's space agency was shaken Thursday by two startling and unrelated reports: One involved claims that astronauts were drunk before flying. The other was news from NASA itself that a worker had sabotaged a computer set for delivery to the international space station.
It was just another jolt for an operation that has had a rocky year from the start, beginning with the arrest of an astronaut accused of attacking a rival in a love triangle.
"It's going to shake up the world, I'll tell you that," retired NASA executive Seymour Himmel said of the latest news. "There will be congressional hearings that you will not be able to avoid."

In the socialist mind, government gets an unlimited amount of do-overs while the private sector is villified for any failure, real or perceived. And if you are ever in doubt, just remember: Socialism is a wonderful system, and its countless failures are due simply to the wrong people being in charge.

I agree that NASA does not deserve funding. Nor, does the "defense" department. However, imagine what could happen if we moved just a small fraction of that money for universal health care.
Yeserday, I ran into a carpenter I'd hired who fell on hard times and became homeless and uninsured. An untreated tooth infection led to a major operation and hospitalization costing us (tax payers) $150,000.00. He must now go on disability costing us much more.
With proper preventive dental care, he would be a productive tax paying citizen and I'd hire him immediately. Now he is incapacitated and homeless. I suspect universal health would pay for itself!

Nobody has suggested UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE. The issue is HEALTH INSURANCE. And since there isn't any other entity large enough to insure all Americans we'll just have to go with our government. My idea is to round up a bunch of real right wingers to keep a beady eye on the money end of this....if a single penny goes missing we'll know about it. Maybe Dick Cheney can be in charge...he could easily work from his jail cell.......'wadda' 'ya think?

well actually it is not. I happen to be one of the many Americans who are uninsured and though it causes me many a problem, I am against giving the government the money and the power to provide national health care when they cant seem to get anything else right. this is just one example out of many. Sending billions to dead farmers, spending millions to truck FEMA ice around the country before it finally gets dumped. Nationalizing health care would cost millions of dollars extra in taxes. Quite frankly, they don't seem to be doing such a good job with what they have now, its not exactly encouraging me to give them more....

NASA doesn't practice medicine; it employe doctors who practice medicine. So do a lot of corporations.
And if you're using this to argue against having the government control health insurance, then you're also using it to argue against having the government control ANYTHING, including the war in Iraq.
By the way - who runs Medicare?

Hell, no.
Why is it that liberals believe highly intelligent, kind and caring actions will result automatically by having government take over ANY previously privately-run activity?
Apparently they're not intelligent, kind or caring.

I don;t know how many times I have to say it, universal health insurance is a medical payment system not a medical delivery system like socialized health care......stop killing the straw men.

Uh..............that sounds like a "personal responsibility" issue to me, pal. How does that have ANYTHING to do with "government control?"
Incidentally, were you screaming about NASA being bullied into lying about satellite/ozone hole/icesheet melting photos?

Yes. The US should be ashamed of it's health care system. I'm ashamed of it. I cannot believe the number of people in this country who have life threatening ailments that cannot get health care without going into debt.
If you're a Christian, you should be ashamed. If you are religious in general, you should be deeply ashamed that you are not taking care of your fellow man when he needs your help.
Of course, we don't have real Christians in the US. We have wind-up Christians that only work on Sunday, you know, the lukewarm ones that Jesus will spit out of his mouth someday.
Or we have the political ones that make Nazis look like George Washington in the lying department. Either way, we don't have real religious people in this country, and that is why our health care system is for profit and only available to the rich.
