Let me "paw' se" and think about this.
I think it is because you never see animators use the color pink. But with no pinky...... well there you go. ;)

Considering people came before cartoons, the question should be changed.
"If God gave us 5 fingers, why do cartoon characters have 4?"
yeah, and that's weird, but coming from an art student, hands are HARD to draw.
