i cannot explain how much it angers me to see people who receive thumbs down just because others dont like the names that they have suggested..everyone has their own personal taste and shouldnt be downed because of that...if someone makes a stupid remark such as "just name him frankenstein"; then fine give them a thumbs down...but i honestly dont see whats wrong with people liking Silas as opposed to Joseph...i think that people just need to respect each others taste...
so i guess my question is...what are your thoughts on this topic?

I agree completely. Thumbs-down should be used on an offensive comment or an insult, not on a genuine answer!

Well I think that on a subject such as baby names if you ask for sum1s opinion then you should listen or read with an open mind and if you dont like it then dont take then advise. I think a person should be given a thumbs down only if the absolutely offend the person who asks the ?... like leaving comments like... "just name him" and such.... if you dont have a genuwine answer then dont answer. Some1 shouldnt be punished for giving there opinion. Certaninly not after they were asked for it. When they get on here and ask sum1s opinion on a silly name and they get told its a silly name and they disagree they should just move on to a different answer. Thats just me tho! Good Luck!

I only give a 'thumbs down' when a person is ignorant or vulgar or insulting or totally out to lunch in their answer.

Everyone has different tastes and name and I wouldn't give someone a thumbs down on a suggestion that was valid, even if I don't care for it.

Thank goodness we all have different tastes or we'd all have the same 4 names!

Using the thumbs up or down is a way for users to rate the answer. Its an opinion. Someone may like the answer and someone may not. I have given thumbs down to, what I consider, bad name choices. So lighten up a bit its not a big deal and you shouldn't take it personally.

I agree! Someone's genuine opinion shouldn't be given a "thumbs down" simply because whoever is giving the "thumbs down" has a different opinion. On the rare occasion I give "thumbs down" it's for very rude or offensive answers.

I totally agree with you. Most parents are asking for names on here because they are looking for something different. I also find it kind of funny that you will open a post and all but one person has a thumbs down..... I wonder who could have done that... :)

I know. The questioner is asking for opinions and ideas. It's absolutely rude and childish to give someone a thumbs down in this category.

I agree. There is really no need for a thumbs down on baby names!

well so many people are trying to come up with UNIQUE names that some are flat out ridiculous, sounds so ghetto or out there, these are precious little beings that should have something that can be pronounced or at least spelled without being made fun of when they reach school age

People, especially parents are extremely judgemental. I have been criticized on here for EVERYTHING - learned that some people just get off on being negative to others and now it doesnt bother me near as much! So just ignore it, I personally LOVE getting answers that are different, helps expand my thinking, so dont stop
