Why didnt the horocrux have any effect on umbridge when she was wearing it, why was she still able to form a patronus (at the court session moments before Harry snatched it from her neck), wasnt she supposed to suffer the same effect from locket because Ron and Hermione also felt its effect not just Harry

She was already messed up as is, so I think the Horcrux locket felt sorry for her.
However, I think Horcrux are only dangerous to the people who are aiming the to destroy the Horcrux; Umbridge was not a threat to it, so I don't think the Horcrux really cared, but Harry, Ron, and Hermione are all trying to destroy it, that's why I think the Horcrux acted on its own for its own survival.

Again, in the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Ginny Weasel was open to the diary and was open it. However, the dairy possessed her although she did not know anything about it.

I think Horcruxes only affect the non-Slytherin wizards and witches. Lucious Malfoy was able to hold on to the diary for a while and the diary did not possess him (Lucious had no idea the diary was the Horcrux as the 7th book mentions that Voldemort did not tell anyone). And then strange things started happening when a fight broke out at the Lockhart book signing thing at the book store and Lucious lost his possession of the diary.

The Horcrux made Ron expectly more irritable/moody because he, Harry nor Hermione liked it and didn't want to wear it.
But with Umbridge she loved the locket. She was using it to claim her own "blood statues". I think if they hadn't taken it away from her she would have died. Like Ginny almost did with the diary.
With Umbridge loving the locket it just made her even more evil then before.

Theory:

I believe that the Horcrux capabilities was not triggered when Umbridge was wearing it...I think that, since Horcrux are special magical items, the Horcrux can sense danger and knows when it is safe or needs to hide...I think that the locket when Umbridge was wearing it was in a state where it needs not to put effect its spells and stuffs on its bearer...But since the Horcrux was stolen from her, and fall in the trio's hands (Harry, Ron, Hermione), the Horcrux had probably sense the danger in its situation...And, to think of it, the Horcrux might have disguise itself from Umbridge so that she would not suspect something about it, thinking that it would be safe while she was wearing it...

Just a Theory though...^_^

Ehrm? Harry is a Horcrux. So Voldemort's soul that's in Harry dies. Not Harry. EDIT: It's ok, it was a simple mistake. Sorry if we all became a bit defensive ;D A Horcrux is a Dark object that has a bit of soul in it. Voldemort had 7 (this is why he 'can't die'); Ravenclaw's diadem, the Gaunt ring, Riddle's diary, Nagini [the snake], the 'S' locket, Hufflepuff's cup, and one he doesn't know about: Harry. To be destroyed, a Horcrux has to be damaged beyond magical repair. (For example, with the sword of Godric Gryffindor, which became impregnated with basilisk venom in Harry's 2nd year of Hogwarts).

maybe it did effect her. Ron was not connected to Voldemort, but felt the things he feared most become more real.

If Umbridge had worse fears, it would have been about half-breeds, non-human magical folk, and Muggle born. There were the ones she targetted with her twisted mind. After the Fake locket was given back to her, she may have been more lenient in court cases if the effects had worn off

The horcrux could sense that Harry Hermione and Ron wished to destroy it, and so acted on them in self-preservation. In the case of Umbridge, she didn't want to destroy it, she just liked it as a locket and the horcrux sensed that it was safe with her.

Well that's open for debate. Since Umbridge acquired the locket somewhere in the 5th book (altough we never knew of this), maybe she wasn't all that evil on her own accord, but rather under the influence of the locket.

Well, for one, she hadn't had it on as long. The others were wearing it for 12 hours a day. Two, she's already evil. She conjures up EVIL patronuses all the time. :D Finally, she's a pureblood, working against muggle-borns. Harry, Ron, and Hermione probably had negatie reactions with the horcrux because one's Harry Potter, one's and blood traitor, and one's a muggle-born, respectively.

Umbridge ENJOYED doing evil things! The more she got away with that stuff, the happier she was, and the better her Patronus would be...

She wasn't under its influence as much. Harry, Ron and Hermione wore it night and day. She also had an evil core.
