okay in bruce almighty the news anchor that bruce hates is named evan baxter and is played by steve carrel but bruce almighty takes place in buffalo NY. Evan almighty is about a character named evan baxter (played by steve carrel) but it takes place in washington dc and he's not a news anchor but a politician.i don't get it. if anyone thinks there is some connection please answer.

yes same guy. baxter was a local news anchor but then he decided to run for congress. happens more than you think.

The two movies leave it up to you to make the connection. In the movie, they don't just leave the change hanging; they address it - like in the scenes where Evan is stressed because he keeps seeing Genesis 6:14 pop up everywhere, his wife tells him it's probably the new house, new lifestyle, and new career. Secondly, in the movie, Congressman Long points out to executives that Baxter is a NEW congressman and thirdly, since both movies are set in present-time, the events took place four years apart (plenty of time for Evan make a career and residence change). Not all movies are just spelled out for you; you do have to make some connections and inferences yourself.

You missed the first five minutes of the film where they explained in a video clip that Evan ran for office in Buffalo and was sent to Washington to represent New Yorkers.
