We bought for our first son when he was about 6 months old a Littletouch leapad.. It's a toy that you can interact and read to your child it has cartriges/books that are tear/drool proof and it has 3 settings the first one is sounds, the second is word association/pictures.. third is reading/games.. The books are all different and go on clearance regularly.. When he was little we would read the books together and touch the interactive parts.. .Now he's 3 and he's reading the books w/ help from the toy and showing his little 1 yr. old brother.. It's also great in the car and at the doctor's office.. We've had ours for over 3 yrs and it still works... It's a good gift.. The system upfront cost about $30 and the books range in price from $12-$15, but we got most of our for around $7 on clearance.. So, we have about 20 different titles, we also go the carry bag to keep it together. For my oldest's 3 rd birthday we've upgraded his system to a MYFIRST LEAPAD that has preschool activities... Look at ebay/clearance ToysRUs.. I had a $10 off coupon so the new upgraded system cost only $4 and I got 3 books for 1/2 price... Good luck

JUMPER! The doorway jumper is the best!! My son would fall asleep in there, let me take my showers while in the doorway to the bathroom, let me cook in the kitchen doorway! IT was the BEST (too big for it now). I also loved the baby einstein gym, helped with tummy time, and first thing my son reached for!

exersaucer by far. at first i thought it was going to be a waste, but my mother in law really wanted to get us one. my daughter would cry when we'd pull her out, even if she'd been in it for half an hour and had a poopy diaper - she never wanted out of that thing!
