Does anyone know what is the window of time is between when I should have gotten my last depo shot (7/27) and I get period? I did not get the shot because my fiancee had a vasectomy, and I am done using depo. How soon can I expect to wean from the side effects, like the weight gain? Is it really possible that I could get pregnant right away? (we haven't had his semen checked yet for sperm)
THanks for any answers in advance :)

Depo effects usually last for at least four months, and the effect gradually wears off after that. How long it will take for your normal hormone cycle to kick back in is impossible to predict. The longer you are on a birth control the longer it can take, but that is just a generality. Some ladies bounce back quicker than others, and the first few cycles are noted for weirdness. It is possible you could get pregnant, yes- though the likelyhood is not good. Your fiance should get his first sperm count checked between 4 and 6 weeks post-op, and you should plan on using backup until a sperm count comes back zero. Once that happens, you are in the clear. I have only known of one vasectomy failure, and that was a loooong time ago- when they just snipped out a piece, no clips and no cauterizing. Nowdays, they tend to be enthusiastic and the chance of failure is really low. But until he has a zero sperm count, consider him loaded and able. The side effects of the Depo will also graduallly ease off, but shifting the weight gain might take some dieting and exercise. It's not just the water, it is actually a bit of fat. Also prepare yourself for some odd cycles, with clots and brown color spotting, and possibly cramping. And not being regular and predictable for several months yet. You should reset inside 6 months or so, though, and if not then you will want to visit the gyn.

I was on depo for over 6 years and got pregnant before I got my first real cycle. I was advised that it would probably take at least a year to conceive but I am currently 34 weeks and have not had a menstrual cycle in almost 7 years. Lucky Me!

I haven't been on the shot, but did research on it a few years ago. For some reason, 3 months sticks out as far as side effects/pregnancy goes. I just checked WebMd, I was right, "several" months.

As far as your fiance's vasectomy, you may want to use a back up method anyway. Isn't there room for error on those?

It could be anywhere from immediately to taking at least two years to come back.

I was on it for four years and after the shot wore off after 12 weeks of taking the last one, I went to Kariva and got my periods back.
