Well I was sick not 2 long ago (not 2 serious but enough to make me go to the emergency). So they took me in and they said they needed a urine sample and I was like why? Then they said it was 2 see if I was pregnant and I was outraged! I was 13 and I needed a pregnancy test?! So then I said No, I'm not gonna gonna degrade myself and take that test! Oh, and 2 make it worse, I had my period! Are they retarded?! I said I was gonna give them give them my bloody pad and that there was my proof! They said they woudn't treat my sickness unless I took the test anyway and I started crying and then they were like There, there. Everyone goes through this. And I was like WTF?! I'M NOT PREGNANT! I'M CRYING BECAUSE YOU GUYS ARE AS*HOLES! Well, anyways. I had a talk with one of the female doctors and I explained my situation and I begged her to call off the test. They finally gave in. But now I worry that if the next time I go to the emergency, do I have to go through this same drama 2 feel better?!

So my other question is if a pregnancy test really is the standard procedure at the emergency?

That sucks! This just goes to show that society is getting screwed up more and more everyday! I don't care if its the procedure. I'm not doing it. I'm NOT STUPID BY HAVING SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE!!

I didn't delay any other patients. They pretty much left me there in the waiting room and kept checking say, "Ready?" I'm not that cruel and stupid.

Well... I guess that makes sense... I actually do know a couple of girls who could use that test when going to the emergency. Thanks everyone.

Oh honey, I know you were embarrassed, but they were just doing their job. They don't know you--as far as they know maybe your symptoms were caused by pregnancy--they have to rule everything out before they can help you. The best thing you could do is just go ahead and do what they tell you to do so you can get to feeling better.
If it makes you feel any better, once I had to have a urine pregnancy test too, and this was AFTER I told them I had a hysterectomy!!!!!

I definately understand why you are feeling so bad. I went to my doctor for a checkup once and my period was late by like 2 days and it does that from time to time. So when they heard it was late they said, "Two days?!?!?!?! Are you sexually active?" and I said "No, I am not sexually active in any way shape or form." and the lady didn't believe me! It wasn't that they wanted me to take a test that was degrading it was that the nurse was accusing me of being promiscuous and she kept looking at my mom for her to go ahead and say that her daughter is lying and is actually the local prostitute. I got really upset and I don't know what the nurse told my doctor but I ended up being checked thoroughly for pregnancy and Std's. I just wish they would have listened to me when I said I have never been anywhere near an area that would give me these things. But, because you went to the emergncy room they have no idea of who you are as a person. You could be prgnant and not want your mom to find out so you tell them that you aren't just so she doesn't know and then harm the baby. They have no idea so definately just take the test and if you have nothing to hide it won't be so bad. I totally understand but they just want to make sure before they quickly treat you.

1. You can be pregnant and still have your period, so showing them evidence of this will not suffice.
2. Many illnesses cannot be treated, and some cannot be determined, without first assuring that pregnancy is not plausible.
3. A pregnancy test given by a physician in order to heal or diagnose is not an affront to your person, but a way to help you.
4. If you want people to believe that you could be personally affronted by the mere thought that you could be pregnant at 13, then you should show a lot more maturity. If you showed up in my triage, acting out, using foul language, calling the doctors and nurses a**holes, then I would have to wonder about you myself.

If you are old enough to menstruate, they test you for pregnancy before some treatments because some procedures and medications can harm an unborn baby. It's not that they were accusing you of being promiscuous or anything - they HAVE to do this because if a patient were pregnant, and they didn't test and they harmed the baby, they could be sued and the attending physician could lose his license to practice. Those doctors have seen a lot of young girls who "couldn't be pregnant" whose tests turned out positive, and testing first headed off a ton of trouble.

Yes it is.. If you don't want a pregancy test done then I suggest you don't go to the emergency room when you are ill. .Go to your regular phys.. or the Urgent Care.. The doctor's and nurses were only trying to help you and if they need you to have a pregnancy test to make sure/ help you than you should do it... Even if you know you are not pregnant.. It's a safety precaution since everyone is "sue" happy these days... Also, while you were being as AS *HOLE to the doctor's and nurses other people who were also sick were waiting on you to take a routine pregnancy test so they had to wait..Till you were done having a needless tantrum to get help as well. Think about it... ?

Trust me the first time I went to the emergency room, I was asked the same thing. I was really embarassed by it. On top of that my mother was in the room with me when they asked. It is normal procedure and you will have to just get use to it. Its really not that big of a deal. And if you truly were a virgin, you would just pee in the cup and get it over with. Its not that bad!!! And they aren't @#$holes. Today its not uncommon for the hospitals to see teenagers your age to come in pregnant. Because lil girls can't keep their legs closed. Thats nothing against you personal--Its just the norm--UNFORTUENTLY!!!! So next time, just go pee and be done with it. Then you can show people that you are a virgin. AND BE WELL PROUD OF IT!!

If in the process the time alotted, (2-5 min) there replaced into no line you're possibly no longer pregnant. in case you waited longer than the time alotted and then there replaced into the main faint of lines, it would desire to be the urine soaking by way of. Take yet another one. I hate those issues. If the different purple line confirmed up in the process the time alotted and it replaced into very faint you are able to desire to ok be pregnant and there won't have been dissimilar Hcg on your urine. i might quite do a persist with up try interior the subsequent couple of days to make advantageous, you have a extra physically powerful concentration of Hcg and the line would be darker. Then after which you will could touch a dr or sanatorium. suitable of success to you

for you it is your over thirteen . in many cases the sickness is from pregnancy in women. i hate it too. the same thing happened to me and i had to take the test. and i hadnt even started my period. it didnt start til the next year it sucks but its alot faster if you just take the test. a pregnancy test being positive when your not sexually active is all a way to find cysts and tumors be grown up and do the test its alot less headache and its not degrading every female over 12 has to do it

I think they just want to be really, really careful, because if they're going to give you drugs in the emergency room, they don't know your history or anything about you, and a lot of drugs can harm babies, and you wouldn't want that to happen to the occasional woman that didn't know she was pregnant, right?
