Forest denudation causes increased runoff and erosion. What runs off and erodes winds up in water bodies.
Eutrophication is a possibility, along with less drastic outcomes.

I would add that absence of leaf litter will change the chemistry of the water arriving in the water channel as well as the timing of its arrival.

increase of soil erosion into water bodies cloging our water ways is one effect. another is that without the forest, there is nothing to take in the toxins and other pollutants that can cause algea blooms and fish kills.
