Both the Republicans and Democrats in the USA are much broader in terms of ideology than any British party. Right wing Neocons in the GOP are probably most akin to Thatcher's Conservatives of the 1980s, or more currently UKIP, but there are also some very liberal minded people in the Republican party who would be more at home as Labour or Lib Dem in the UK.
Similarly with the Democrats. Although they mainly follow a liberal agenda, they include people who would feel quite at home with right wing Conservatives or UKIP in the UK, as well as people who have more in common with the left wing of the labour party.
I would also like point out to ladymoonlight, although I generally agree about right wing Republicans, I don't think they in any way resemble the anti-Capitalist, anti-American BNP. The BNP are considered far-right due to their intolerant social ideology and authoritarianism. Their economic and foreign trade policies have more in common with the far left.

Yes, but the labor party admits that it is for socialism and the democratic party still tries to hide the fact. The British Conservative party also used the term liberal but it has a different meaning in England. They are more like the republican party in America.
The colors are reversed, too. Republican = Red States
The Democrats = Blue. In Brittan, Conservative = Blue, Labour = Red.

Americans are WAY more right wing than any British party.
Although the Democrats roughly = Labour and the Republicans = Conservative, I think that in policy the Democrats are more like our Conservatives
The Republicans don't have an equivalent in policy in the UK (Thank God! It would probably be the BNP or something!) They are very very STAUNCH right wing conservatives, way more right wing than our Conservatives,
Thats why I'm glad not to live in America!

Kind of but not exactly. Only the far left wing of the Democratic Party probably reaches the level of the Liberal Party and the Republican Party, overall is probably more conservative than your Conservative Party.

No, the Democrats are like our British Conservative party.
We don't have a version of the Republican party here.

Im not an English citizen but I can give you an unbiased sumary of the parties. The Democrats are for higher taxes, wealthfare, more public services and things like gay mariiage. The republicans believe in no wealth fare, lower taxes and less public services.

Look at their websites:

That way you will get their information directly from them without anyone putting their own opinions into their answer.
