Sorry they're not very good but they make my Aunty Jen laugh when she's had 15 glasses of sherry and she starts to sing Jim Reeves songs with my Aunty Pat

ask him if he is interested in any old films, actors etc. question him about what type drama, comedy all of the above that gets his attention, by asking him about himself you engage him in conversation, learn more about him and give him the opportunity to ask about you

You can discuss the current news and events..
You can discuss what you like, your hobbies, your friends...
ask him on how's his relationship with the various members of his family are..
Stuff like that.
