When I was a kid, the block of flats we lived in had about eight floors, or was it ten? We would play a version of hide and seek, which the person who was it would randomly hit buttons to the different floors and try to catch people on the right floor when the doors opened. When you were caught, you joined "it" in the lift. Eventually there would be about nine or ten of us in there, and it was a bit cramped. It was great fun and we would be running up and down the stairs. I can understand now why our parents and other residents would complain about the sound of "fairy elephants" and blame for the fact that the lift would break down on a regular basis. LOL

I was stuck a couple of times, fortunately, the lift was not full at the time and I was not in there long. I do not remember being scared or anything. I did get a right bollocking from my friend's dad though [not that stop me from playing lift hide and seek again] :-)

We do have lifts at work, but though they say they can fit ten people, five is the maximum you can get in there but three is probably the optimum number [ie you can stand in there without being pushed up against someone.] You can therefore appreciate why I would not want to be stuck in a lift at work. If I did it would probably be when it is full to the brim and takes about ages to get out. Though they break down regularly I have not been stuck yet, but I am quite lazy and use the lifts rather the stairs, so you never know!

Yes, got stuck in the lift for 5 mins, it was just like the lift was when it moves, but without the sensation of going up or down.

Imagine a box, 2m by 2m by say 1.5m with doors on one side, and a mirror on the other side, next to the doors are buttons you press to select your desired location, do you seriously think that the lift would look significantly different it were to stop functioning?

Yes.. in Switzerland. You could actually open the door, and we were pretty much faced with a brick wall, with about half a foot of space at the top where the floor was that we were supposed to get off at. It didn't take very long.. we pressed all of the buttons until one of them worked, and decided to take the stairs for the rest of the trip...

My brother got stuck in a lift when he was four and refused to use them again until he was 24.
My dad once tried to 'lose' a dog we had by putting it in a lift and sending it to the 21st floor. The dog was back home before my dad!!! He got to stay.

Yeah it was in a hospital for about ten minutes i really dread that day because the janitor was in the same lift as us so you could smell the disinfectant and my little brother was practically going crazy. Those10 minutes were really long.

Yes, I have been. It was approx. 15 minutes. There was a terrible thunderstorm and all the power went out when I was in the elevator. It was a little scary.

One time in New York, we were shopping in Macy's (9 stories) and we worked our way up floor by floor, and on the 8th floor, I thought our family was going in the elevator behind me, so I went in and as it was closing, my mom's like "where are you going? WAIT!" And she panicked. I yelled I'd stop on the 6th floor, and she met me there a moment later.

Yes I have - luckily it was still on the ground floor, but wouldn't move and the door wouldn't open. It was only for a few minutes, but I did panic a bit.
