I was driving through the entrance gate and the motion sensors on the gate were not working and both gates were closing in on my car. The exit gate closed into my car and damaged my front fender. I called the complex and the property management and they said that they only cover damage to the actual gate itself. Is that possible? Do I have any way of collecting damages from the complex?

You have a valid claim. Their equipment malfunctioned, causing the damages beyond your control. I would contact management once again and ask for the name of their insurer so that you can submit a claim for damages.

Yes, take them to court. They should be liable for the malfunction and any damages caused by the faulty equipment.

If you rammed the gate they would come after you for the cost of the repairs to the gate

Yes, I kinda went through that before, but you should talk to your insurance agent also, because I ended up taking them to court.
