Don't you think its very curious why they are never even asked the hard, important questions?
The debate showcased an assortment of the most unproductive questions I’ve ever heard, such as telling us who their favorite teacher was as a child, and spending far too much time letting them prance down memory lane. Those questions belong on a human-interest talk show interview, not on a national debate. They were a colossal misuse of time, with no bearing on who is fit to lead America.

The Democratic candidates won't tackle the important issues of today because they never really know where they stand until they take an opinion poll. Even then, their handlers sternly warn them against saying anything that will produce that one deadly sound bite the MTV generation needs to mock them. Everyone is dancing around the issues because committing to a policy or plan makes you a sitting duck for everyone else to attack.
Once you lay out a strategy or plainly state your opinion, this puts the other candidates in a hyena-like frenzy of non-stop attacks. Democrats are great at criticizing someone else's plan without ever giving their own cohesive strategy. They'll revel in pointing out supposed flaws in another person's position, but they will avoid presenting a comprehensive plan like the plague.
Did anyone realize how brilliant and succinct "Sweetpea" summed it all up for us? She said: "When is the last time you saw a Democrat with a logical plan or solution that didn't include Socialism or loss of our rights?"
Another reason Democrats don't tackle the important issues is they don't have much to contribute to the debate. They can't come up with anything original, but they'll viciously attack anyone else who had the courage to present a plan. It's almost like getting into office takes up their entire time, and they figure they'll actually formulate a coherent policy once they're safely elected.
Democratic candidates remind me of the stridently defiant African politicians of the 1950s and 1960s who called for an end to colonialism. However, when they achieved independence, it appeared that they never had spent any time educating themselves about how to run a country. Some of these nations didn't have anyone who could even forcast the weather, resulting in terrible crop harvests and famine. They didn't stop to consider how they would set up all the mundane things, like garbage collection, setting up a national currency and central bank, creating a post office system for mail delivery, etc.
For these people, it was great fun to verbally attack the old system, drive around in Jeeps while wearing military garb and enciting the people to violence. They got to fire off guns and make self-congratulatory speeches. But when it came time to run the nation, get the trains to run on time and get the garbage picked up, they were clueless.
Just watch Democratic candidates. They will never reveal their own plans. They spend all their time attacking people who actually have a plan.

The only important issues to most libs is anything that fits their ultimate agendas that the people can loosely support, like global warming. Or whatever they think could help re-elect them. If the Iraq war became popular again and was a stunning victory and the American people were very happy about it, the democrats as gut-wrenching as it would be for them would have to flip-flop. But since they are experienced mind-changers, they could do it no problem and the media would be right there to help ease them back into a positive light. Heck theyd be working it into their campaigns! Hillary ,after Saddam had been caught and the opinion polls rose, reissued her support for the war.
Stupid things like manmade global have become an important issue because it combats capitalism and big business (2 things they mock) and also scores them votes from people that think trees are better than humans. Their anti-war campaign against the administration and our troops have been a twofold plan to both stick it to their politcal enemies and to seize votes from the 50yr old hippies.
Meanwhile the true tasks like border security, national defense, and the war on terror are exclusively the burden of our true leaders, conservatives.

This is a democratic party debate. They have to pander to their wacko, socialist, extremist and single issue base. At no time must a candidate allow him or herself to be pinned down with a serious question. If a serious question manages to slip through the screening process, it must be side-stepped.
Today's democratic party is a fragile mosaic of mostly single issue radicals. By having the unfortunate situation of both a woman and a black man in the same race it is threatened even further with revealing how little each group has in common. It forces both candidates to reach farther and farther to the left for support. That will make it harder to reach back to the center for the general election.
Why do you think that the democrats could never agree to debate on FOX? It is just too easy for a difficult question to slip through.

Because they are running on the "Bush is Bad" Ticket...whatever the President has done is wrong...but they have no plan of their own, except cut and run...real leaders come up with a solution, fake ones run away...
EDIT: tedz...they do choose the questions they are asked...and the people who ask them...do you really think Hilary or Obama would set themselves up to be asked a real question by an American Voter, or plant their "Zombie" followers in the crowd...why do you think they only go on Liberal shows?

There are a couple of reasons that come to mind, first would be of course they have no reasonable positions, just radical ones.
The other is they cannot tell the truth, if they did NO ONE would vote for them.
In either case these are not people I can trust to lead us.

You make it seem like they choose the questions they were asked blame CNN not the dems. Importance is subjective so dont be mad becuase your concerns were not met the more debates they have the more issues will be discussed be patient.

There is plenty of time for all the serious debates.
I don't see anything wrong with seeing the human side of the candidates. I'd like to see the same kind of debate with the republicans too. It can't all be gloom and doom.

Agreed. And they didn't even deal with the issue of terrorism in any significant manner.
It was like a talk-show, not a real debate. And the guy dressed as a snowman completely trivialized it.

Because the have no solutions or plans other than complete control. They do not understand how to manage. When is the last time you saw a democrat with a logical plan or solution that didn't include socialism or loss of our rights?
