So what ? Try some foreign languages. In German a knife, fork, and spoon are all different genders. In French, every single object is either masculine or feminine . What's either masculine or feminine about a rock, or a shoe ?
Sure there are many silly things about everything, if you take the time to hunt them out.
You forgot about chopping the tree down, then chopping it up. Seems that you're back where you started.

I taught English to foreign born residents a few years ago. I don't know how many times I had to say, "it is just that way." I never realized how hard of a language we had until I started trying to teach it.

Well, English is the hardest language to learn. Okay, except Chinese (any kind)...
I guess the person that made up the English that we speak now, must've had no clue what he was thinking. Or, he was just trying to make it hard on everyone.

It is very complicated..us people who are fluent in english never think about it..but to foreigners..it has to be completely confusing with all the crazy rules...and not to mention the crazy slang we have....haha
