Thank you to everyone who answered. I'll tell you why I asked. I was reading a story about a woman whose boyfriend was about to go on a stag weekend to Amsterdam and she hid his passport on the morning he was due to leave. It reminded me that my fella doesn't have a valid passport. Neither do I. Although we are planning to get married in Hawaii next year so we'd better get some! I just wondered how many people do, at any given time, hold a valid passport. It seems most people do!

Actually, no. Wanna hear the story?
I was stranded in Norway last year and had to ask the US embassy there for help getting home. So, I had to take out a repatriation loan. When you do that, they invalidate your current passport, issue you a new one only valid for a few days (to allow you to get back home) and you cannot get a valid one again until the repatriation loan is repaid. I still have some $$ left on my bill from the US government, so I do not have a valid passport.
;-)

No, mine ran out in 2005! Still haven't re-newed it! I've got married as well, so I need to change my name etc... I'm not planning on going abroad in the near future (unfortunately) and I can think of better things to spend £65 on!
