The receipt from buying the book. I read them over again and if the ink hasn't gone away I can see how long it's been since I 1st read it.

I use 'Book Thongs' you can buy them at Waldenbooks, Borders and some other book stores. They are thin waxed over thread and have beads and charms on both ends that are heavy enough not to slide through the books. I love them because they won't break the bindings of my books because they're really thin. And because they're small enough I can keep them almost anywhere. I have them hanging all over my house so I can grab one from just about anywhere if I'm reading and I don't have something handy, and then there is no more throwing a receipt or a card in my book to hold the place for now, or scrambling around to find something. I can also play with them and twirl them around my hard and fingers, and fidget (which I do) while I'm reading. I've even taken to making my own, because I like to do crafts. So if I have a particular book that I love and I've read a million times, I'll make one just for that book so it will stay with it all the time. The for some of the Harry Potter Books, The Lord of The Rings series, and for The Golden Compass. I made individual book marks (or thongs) to stay with each book. I have others too.

I usually buy hard cover books whenever possible. So I just fold the cover over to mark my place. I have a few bookmarks but rarely use them.

I rarely bend (dog ears) the pages of any book. I prefer using the book mark given by the shop from where i got the book from - else any hard thing like a ticket / piece of paper / piece of carton etc...

A home made one I bought at a school fete. My nephews class made them. It is a laminated gum leaf with a leather & bead tassle. I love it. I have some that I was recently given at the Body Shop with quotes from the Dalai Lama & his Australian tour dates. The photograhy on them is amazing and I like those as well.

Right now, I'm using this pamphlet "A Guide to Your New Puppy". I don't use bookmarks either. ;0)

Same here. I use anything that is close by that will fit in the book. I have used movie ticket stubs, a piece of mail, a tissue (unused of course). I love to read!

I have a hand made cross that my grandma made me with needle point. It is beautiful, and I use it all the time, so I don't lose it. I always know it is somewhere in a book!
