I'd submit to you that Israel is behind all the hype surrounding terrorism. They plant intel via 3rd parties and report the same false info to our govt 'cause we're special friends and all, and viola! the US has confirmation/strong evidence that there is a credible threat. Libya is an example. The Mossad also played up the Saddam is such a bad guy angle starting in '89 and it infiltrated the US via talks with high level officials, the AIPAC (which Congress and WH are intimate with) and fanned the flames of war (both) despite the fact WMDs were bogus and we knew it before invading.

The right wing in Israel thinks the key to survival is a strong military and the key to a strong military is to stay at war, so they try and keep the threat up and thwart peace efforts at will. Well, the Mossad primarily thwarts, while the govt tries to make a show of "trying" to make peace. Oh, we'll give you a fraction of what's yours or we'll release 200 prisoners (never mind that most have done nothing wrong and aren't charged with any crime, being beaten daily, and 200 more will be rounded up in the few months to come anyway).

I sought to prove you wrong and did an extensive search for Iranian threats to the U.S. but as per your rules, I could not find anything directly coming from the Iranian government.

I did however find some interesting reading material http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/hass/2006/sep/09/the_iranian_threat
that would support the complete opposite of your question.

I have to wonder though, if enemies of the U.S. would make public threats knowing full well we have the technology to act upon it. After all, terrorism is performed on somewhat hit and run tactics, and warning us ahead of time would only cause their efforts to fail.

I don't believe any one government in this situation is completely innocent.

It has threatened to attack US soldiers and bases in Iraq, it has also threatened to attack US allies in the region.

I would think that to be serious.
