Yes, eat away!!

There are very few things that breastfeeding mothers cannot eat or drink. And usually those are because their baby has had some kind of sensitivity to it.

"There are NO foods that a mother should avoid simply because she is breastfeeding. It is generally recommended that you eat whatever you like, whenever you like, in the amounts that you like and continue to do this unless you notice an obvious reaction in your baby to a particular food. There is no such thing as a "LIST OF FOODS THAT BREASTFEEDING MOTHERS SHOULD NOT EAT" because most nursing moms can eat anything they want, and because the babies who are sensitive to certain foods are each unique - what bothers one may not bother another. If you have a family history of allergies, you might want to avoid certain foods (for example, peanuts or dairy), but again, this would be different for every child."

Garlic While Breastfeeding

This is my 3rd child to breastfeed. The best way I have found if something bothers the baby is trial and error. Eat some garlic (and nothing else new) and the next day if the baby is fussy or gassy you'll now he/she can't tolerate it. Then you can try again in a couple of months after the baby is older and the digestive system has matured a little more. Generally after you start introducing solids, the baby's system can adapt much easier to new seasonings and you should be able to enjoy most everything! (My little one right now can't tolerate Italian seasonings - how depressing!)

Yes you can eat garlic while breastfeeding. It's not at all harmful.
Sometimes the baby may not like the taste changes in your milk if you eat an excessive amount of strong flavored foods such as garlic and onion.

Actually, eating flavorful foods while breastfeeding can help give your baby an appreciation for those foods once baby starts solids. My 3 yr. old loves balsamic vinaigrette and I think it's b/c I love it too and ate it while nursing. Anyway, I can't remember who posted it, but someone gave you a great link to kellymom.com, check that out for accurate info on this topic- some people here don't know what they're talking about.

Yes! You should eat a wide variety of food. The different flavours that come through in your milk get the babies taste sensations working. Just don't eat strong foods like garlic in excessive amounts!!!

Yes you can... It just changes the way your breast milk might taste for that feeding... It is in no way harmful to the baby. Its actually better because the baby is exposed to more than one flavor unlike formula fed babies who are only exposed to one taste. Breastfed babies will take to different foods better than formula because they have been exposed to more flavors and tastes. Garlic is one of those foods that will change the flavor and is not harmful to your baby!

Eating garlic is fine. Some gets to the baby and he/she will let you know if they don't like it!

certain foods and spices can upset baby via breastmilk ; anything in moderation to try ; if baby fussy etc; look at your diet and make changes so you both will be happy; if garlic upsets baby then you will not want to be up all night due to an upset stomach of your baby; it is trial and error and adjustments; that is call motherhood; congratulations!!

It will probably make the baby have alot of gas. I tried to stay away from garlic and spicy foods while breast feeding.
