My upper outer thigh was damaged by a car door opening onto me as I rode past on a moped. I suffered a very large haematoma and apparently the thigh muscle was severed. Consequently, whenever I have used and taxed the muscle, after about 10-15 minutes, I get extremely painful, similar to labour pain contractions that last between 5-15 minutes depending on the extent of the overstrain. I have been unable to find a doctor who can answer this puzzle. The gynaecologist read the referral from my doctor (who had written that the pains were weak! I had described them just as I have here!) and more or less dismissed me as an attention-seeking hypochondriac as did the neurologist who tested for damage to the nerveways with a little rubber hammer. This problem is driving me nuts and it also contracts after something which I'm not allowed to discuss here. The pain is very off-putting. Can anyone please help?

I would recommend getting another opinion from a different gynecologist, preferably one that does not share the same office of the doctor you saw.

For that gynecologist second opinion I would recommend trying a urogynecologist because this could have something to do with your pelvic floor. They are also good at trying to figure out difficult cases.

Also, another doctor that could be helpful is a rheumatologist (a doctor that treats disorders and diseases of the joints and bones) because of the kind of symptoms you are noticing around the thigh area.

They are also very good at trying to figure out difficult cases.

If your primary care doctor doesn't want to try and do more I would recommend getting another opinion from one of the other primary care specialty doctors, and preferably from someone that does not share the same office of this doctor.

First of all I hope you didn't sign a medical release on the insurance claim. If not then you should be able to still seek help. I would try a physical therapist as it involves your muscles. Since the one was severed -I hope they repaired that - the other muscles have to compensate for that. You really need to speak to a professional about this and if the insurance company gives you any guff consult an atty. if you did not sign the release.
