I have no idea what wages in the UK are like. They would have to be good for people to want to live there. Why not look at jobs in Australia in, say, the Sydney Morning Herald on a Saturday at http://www.smh.com.au and compare wages for yourself in the fields in which you are interested? You could also look at house prices and rentals to see how they fit with wages and compare those with the UK.

By the way, we have great weather in Australia. I left the cold hole of the UK 45 years ago and have never regretted it.

I dont know about Sydney, maybe the same all over Australia. I was in Australia about three years ago Perth.
My friend was earning $250 australia dollars my weakly wage in London at the time amounted to about $600 dollars.
But I found things were very cheap there compared to London. But my friend thought they were expensive. Cost of living there is lower. Hope this helps, have a good trip

The minimum wage for 18yo and over is around 50p more per hour (37.5hr week) in Australia (after currency conversion), than its UK equivilent. In the big cities you will generally get more than this but the cost of living is also greater and it takes more time to get around. It will also depend upon the industry ie; manufacturing, building, mining etc will pay more than retail and customer service in general.
There is buckets of work all over Australia at the moment.
