U.F.O.s cannot land ,because as soon as they do they become Unidentified Grounded Objects,not U.F.O.s.

Most images you see of them are either fakes (which are easier to make when the thing is flying) or mistaken images of air craft. In fiction, they often fly because it's cooler.
If they were attacking, flyming makes mroe sense as you have a bett view, although you are more vulnerable to AA guns.
