ask your insurance people

It depends upon the cause of roof failure and your insurance coverage.

Most insurance policies do not cover normal wear. They do cover catastrophic damage (e.g. tree limb falling, lightening, hail, etc). Some policies will repair the catastrophic damage at a depreciated value (less than replacement cost) while others cover full replacement regardless of roof age.

Check with your agent for a fuller understanding of what you bought as he can explain it to you.

The sine-qua-non is : what caused the damage to the roof and do you have accidental damage cover? Insurance normally covers specified perils:

Fire, Lightning, explosion, storm, tempest, flood, escape of water, riot or civil commotion (Ex NI), aircraft (or articles dropped from them), impact by motor vehicles or animals + subsidence, heave and landslip.

Some policies will add on extra events but these are the main ones. You won't be covered for: sonic bangs or radioactivity (standard exclusions) nor for normal wear and tear.

Firstly read your policy...ring the insurers...

Also, if the repairs are due to damage by say weather, then yes, they are covered. But if they are repairs due to natural wear and tear, then no, they would not be covered.

If you have a quote from a roofer, then discuss this with the insurance company to see if it it covered.

Best to phone the insurance company. - if its just general maintenance the repairs will not be covered I don't think.

But if the repairs are due to weather damage or other damage or accident they probably will be covered.

Yes.
It covers under the insurance policy.
but if you make any addational construction on your roof like the addational water tank or addational construction on the roof without prior intimation to the insurance company.
Also by the natural desasters like earth quake or in war conditions the insurance companies are unable to pay the claims. (Please read the insurance companies manual carefully)

Read your policy, call the insurance company and contact a contractor that has experience in insurance claims. Be warned, what your advised by your insurance company may not be correct.

Phone the insurance company, they will tell you exactly how to claim, if you can, we recently contacted ours to make sure we was covered just in case we flooded, and they gave us all the relevant information.

I hope I've helped a little.

If the damage has been caused by inclement weather such as a hurricaine or some other accident such as a tree falling on it.

They will not cover you just because its started leaking, for example. Thats wear and tear.

Your buidings policy covers you for Storm damage, and Accidental damage if you have that option. Anything that is wear and tear will be repudiated.

Examples of what would be covered; slates/tiles being blown off by winds, flashings being blown out by high winds, gutters/valleys backflowing due to unusually high water volume during heavy downpours, accidental damage caused by tradesmen etc walking on the roof and cracking tiles/slates, pointing being blown out etc.

Examples of what would be repudiated; old, cracked or spalled tiles & slates allowing water to enter the property, failure of lead valley linings due to age, failure of lead flashings due to age, failure of felt flat roofs due to age/UV damage etc.

Hope this is of some help
