For a girl, I love Elise-Mae or Madison-Mae, both are pretty and I love Mae. If you would prefer one of the Irish names then Orlaith is nicer than Caoimhe, I think.

For a boy, I like all of the names but I'm not that keen on Oisin - it's not that bad though. My favourite is Jacob.

Oh and don't worry about them being a bit different. In my opinion it is better to not be able to pronounce them than to have 4 children with the same name in the class, so that they all have to have the first letter of their surname after their name. In one class my sister was in, she had to be Jess Li because there was already a Jess and a Jess L ... what a nightmare! Whatever your child's called, at least they'll never have that problem.
Good luck!

I think the first question has to be whether you're in Ireland or elsewhere - if you're in ireland you've got some gorgeous names there, but in the UK, for example, baby will find nobody can ever pronounce their names and might get some dodgy mutations.

I like Elise-Mae, but find the accent over the E unusual - is that an Irish thing? (Apologies for ignorance!)

I also like Caoimhe, but Angles will mutate that (have you ever heard us trying to pronounce Niamh?). The other thing to be aware of is that while Caoimhe sounds really pretty while it's still uncommon, it sounds like the sort of name the chavs are just itching to discover, and spell Keevey. But please don't let me put you off, just airing my thoughts!

Orlaith is excellent, and not too easy to mutate into anything horrible-sounding so far as I can see. I think I'd put my vote on Orlaith.

On the boy front, I like Jacob and think that too many biblical names are being phased out, so I'm all in favour of Jacob.

I don't like Connor or Devon, just because everyone I've ever known with either of those names have turned out to be thugs or chavs. Sorry!

Keep us posted with what you decide!

Hi there

I like the Irish names too, my niece is Orlagh but have had negative experience with a Caoimhe so wouldnt go there personally!! I love the way you plan to spell Mae, and Addison is such a cute name! Élise is nice but I've a friend with that name- more often then not people call her Lisa which she hates!!
My favourites would be:

Evangeline Rose (Evie Rose)
Sofia Rose
Rhea Mae
Faye Lily
Maya

And for boys- love the name Connor!! My little boy is Elliott and I've not met another Elliott yet, apart from the boy in ET and the girl doctor in Scrubs.....its original and uncommon!! Lachlann would be a favourite but do like Odhran instead of Oisín..... More favourites are:

Rory
Thomas
Alex
Ben
Matthew
James

My boys names are more common than the girls ones but I think its harder to name a boy...... Do you know whay you're having yet? How far gone are you?

I really like
Emerson-Mae..but I think the son in Emerson denotes a male name...maybe Emersen-Mae? or Emersyn-Mae?

Love the Irish names!! Caoimhe is great! Maybe pair it with Orlaith. Caoimhe Orlaith is a lovely name. I would worry though that she's going to be asked "How do you spell that?" and mispronounced a ton.

Also love Sianna Elise maybe?

Love Lochlan. Lochlan Connor is a nice strong Irish name.

For the girls, I like Elise and Emerson but don't care too much for the "mae" on the end of either. They're both beautiful names by themselves.

For the boys, I really like Connor and Lachlan. Devon I think is more used for girls and Jacob is soooo popular and used a lot now. Good choices though!

Irish names are beautiful and im right behind you in choosing something different instead of traditional. The last thing i want is for my kids to be numbered at school because theres so many in their class with the same name.

It would depend on your surname but my favourites in your list are:-

Girls:
Elise (how about Elise-Sianna thats pretty)

Boys:
Lachlan (Lachlan Connor sounds good)

Dont worry about always changing your mind, i was the same but once baby is born you can see them and get an idea of what to call them and they grow to suit their name.

Such pretty names! i think orlaith is so lovely it goes nice wiv mae orlaith-mae! But if its elise in ur heart go for it cos u dont wana regret ur babies name! For a boy oisin is perfect really sweet sounding! Ignore negative comments at the end of the day as long as u think its nice and u bring ur child up wiv the confidence to carry such a special name that is all that matters! xxxx

It often depends on what your surname is too. First names can sound great until it's paired next to the surname. I like Madison and Connor, and I chose single names over double names because sometimes adding a second part may make things difficult for the kid in the future. Instead, use the second part of the name as his/her middle name.
