That
a) They only seem to remember it almost 3 months later despite Murat having been on the news only days after her disappearance and pretty much nearly every day since then.
b) If they saw him 'peeking' into the apartment, they chose to do nothing about it. Seriously if you saw a strange man peeking into the apartment, would you just carry on and let your friends keep their children in their unlocked apartment? What kind of friends are these to allow this to happen?
c) They claim they would recognise him anywhere, yet did not notice him despite the fact he was always around the media acting as a translator for days after her disappearance.
d) That it took a reporter to voice her suspicions of Robert Murat before he was taken in for questioning by the Police. The McCann friends said nothing for almost 3 months about Robert Murat, now suddenly its a certainty in their minds???

Dave, with regards to b), I think this is a big development. I see only three options here:
1. It is all lies and nobody saw any such man.
2. The person who saw him didn't bother to tell the McCanns.
3. The McCanns were told but did not act.
How on earth could one of the group have seen a strange man peeking into the apartment that evening and not even bothered mentioning it to the McCanns?! This is surely not credible.
Did they indeed tell the McCanns but this somehow wasn't enough for them to abandon yet another evening out?! This would be a truly shocking revelation! Might this be why there is a pact of silence....obviously they would all know that any doubt in the public mind over whether the McCanns had been negligent would be removed if people knew they had been told about this. Perhaps the friends all agreed to protect the McCanns from this damaging revelation?
Well I think we can rule out option 2 but which of the other options is the truth? One of them has to be!

The story does seem strange why did it take a reporter to raise suspicions about Murat if the McCanns friends had seen him acting strangely before then. Will we ever know the truth about what happened that night.

On a previous question I had stated that I did not believe that the police would allow witnesses to confront Murat. With the publication of this new revelation, I am sorry to admit that I have been very naive. My confidence in this investigation is nearing zero. I for one feel that not enough heat is being aimed at the local police. The McCann's, the press and most of us in this forum are letting them off the hook.

Lets just say for arguments sake that this information is true and was given to the Police in originals statements but only leeked publicly now.
However you want to cut it, what kind of people admit to watching some stranger peek into their childs bedroom and do sh!t all about it!!
And people wonder why the McCanns suitability as parents is being questioned.

Also, if they saw a strange man peeking into the apartment, would they still have gone and left Madeleine and her siblings all alone in the unlocked room? If thats the case, then thats even more neglectful.

team mccann are working on the principal that if you throw enough mud and hope some sticks- i have no idea if Murat was involved with Madelaine's disappearance, but the most culpable people are her parents
(when this was spell checked working came up as whoring, would this be an apt description of gerrymanders round the world jolly?)

If they saw somone staring in the window why didnt they report this to the police, and why would you still go out and leave 3 children on their own, also if i saw somone staring into my windows i would have confronted them myself, they are just trying to take the blame of themselfs for leaving the kids alone.I just hope that madeleine is found soon.

Maybe, just maybe...
1.They didn't read anything sinister into it at that time as Murat was a familiar face & perhaps friendly with the McCanns. What if he just waved Good-night to them?
2.They didn't like it & told the police who asked them not to spread it around just then for investigation reasons.
I know it sounds lame, but it is so easy to judge everyone's motives & actions IN RETROSPECT. Its natural.

everything about this case is up in the air. i asked myself that very same question. even so, now the police are looking into the sighting of a man rushing pass to get to the marina with a child near a church in pdl.....i recall this being reported in an article very early in the case and the police are now looking into it......after so much time has passed.
