No.

This way we get to honor Saint Patrick in the traditional way and keep Holy Week holy.

Catholicism is very much a "both" religion instead of an "either/or" religion. We believe:
+ Jesus is both God and man
+ Mary is both virgin and mother
+ In both faith and reason
+ In both celebration and solemnity

With love in Christ.

Not really. Maybe it can just be celebrated twice. Once the first time with the roman catholics. Then a day to recope from the hang over. Then back to it with the rest of the country on st patty's day.. it really works out very well.

My grandparents were from Ireland on my fathers side, but I've never celebrated it intentionally anyway. It seems like an excuse for a bunch of folks to get together and get drunk and party. I never needed an excuse or green beer for that matter! HA! But I don't drink anymore..so it's all irrelevant to me.

I am neither Irish or Catholic so all I care about is how it will be celebrated in Beantown (Boston) and it looks like from that article that it will have no effect at all. So all is good to me.

Good Luck!!!

The Catholic Church is well versed at being in conflict with itself.
