i will be travelling from prague through slovenia to croatia by train (one way), but the internet sites i`ve been looking at are quoting £100+ for this route, i am wondering if it will be cheaper to buy the tickets at the station.

Great you're going to travel through eastern Europe. Travelling by train is still quite cheap there.

I'm quite sure there are cheaper ways to buy a ticket. I'm wondering if you used the official sites of the respective national train companies?

Recommendation: Try to buy your ticket at the station. At this price level you should even be able to get a car instead!

Tip: Look out for special offers. Many eastern European countries offer round-trip tickets; e.g. in Hungary you can bidirectionally travel any distance longer than 250 kilometres for just about 25 euros! NEVER leave your baggage unwatched. Take some toilet paper with you, mostly there isn't any in eastern European trains! And do never ever try the coffee!

To summarize: In Europe, train tickets are mostly cheaper at the station. However, the Internet gives you some cute advantages such as exact time tables.

Have a nice vacation!

It depends how many stops you want to make.

Cost on line and at ticket counters are usually the same. In many cases buying local tickets provides a different route that is less expensive. From the Check republic to Croatia may be a tortuous route. Consider buying a local or international train pass, it may be more economical.. Go to the Eurailpass site and check it out.

Do the following: Go to http://www.jizdenka.cz and use it to get the ticket you need. Watch out for the via point. If you are happy, print it out and go to any rail ticket office in the UK and buy the ticket there.
