I agree with you, it seems as though they are trying to create the news instead of reporting it.
I normally love ESPN, but not on the Barry issue. Every report or segment about him has undertones and cheap shots about steroids. Especially Peter Gammons. He interviewed Barry at the home run derby and was all lovey dovey with him, then the next day he has a report about this being the steroid era and how Barry is the king of it.
Then they made a hot issue out of whether or not the comissioner would be there when Barry broke the record. Nobody on here was talking about that until ESPN started insinuating that there is some type of tension between the two.
The common reason I hear that people hate Barry is because he is a "jerk" but honestly, I have never seem him as anything other than professional when he's giving interviews. It was the media [and ESPN] that really started throwing that around, not the fans. The haters just latched on to it, without even wondering if it was true or not.

Bonds is The Story, and the media have to chase The Story.
Bonds is even better for the mediots, because he gets to be TWO stories -- The New Home Run Champion (yay!) and The Steroids Guy (We Think And Will Insinuate) (boo!). It's having their cake and eating it. Playing up both storylines gets them ALL the readers/viewers, and that's what it's all about.

Any one that says Barry Bonds did not take steroids is a fool. If he did not then why is'nt he suing the guys who wrote the book about his steroid use for libel? He can't because he is guilty. Look, you could test me for marijuana in my system and I would come up clean, but that don't mean I never smoked a joint before. He is still a great player and I got no problem with the guy, but is'nt this kind of a good thing that we are protecting Hank Aaron.

I don't think the media is hounding him. This is a really big deal breaking this record. But it is a bigger deal that he did it cheating, However it is still the record. Barry hasn't always be good to the media either. That is why he is the target of the media

So what you're saying is that the media shouldn't be all over someone breaking the greatest record in all of professional sports? Now that just doesn't make any sense at all.

I am tired of hearing about steroids and Bonds. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but to date Barry Bonds has not tested positive for steroids has he. So until he does give him credit for what he's accomplished.

Because if he did use steroids, then he cheated. Hank Aaron did not use steroids and holds the record. If you have to cheat to get the record then you don't deserve it. They want to make sure that he is not cheating before he gets the record.
