It cannot be reached thus the word infinity!

Infinity can be reached (pi). The limitations of infinity cannot be reached.

i always thought that the concept of infinity was hypothetical and cannot be proven.

Just because it may be hard for some people to wrap their little minds around a concept, doesn't mean it doesn't exist...

It can only be imagined, but it can be calculated as an approximation in Calculus.
