i mean every pitcher is like...uhhh....overweight and fat, with beer bellies, hence Bartola Colon, Brad Penny, David Wells, Roger Clemens...and like 90% other pitchers...I can't even remember a fit baseball player...only guy i could think of of is Jay Payton, Mets

I watch a lot of baseball, football and basketball...i am sorry, but there's no such thing as an athletic pitcher...i mean, i heard working out can interfere with a pitcher's throwing motion and a hitter's batting techniques...so and so, but come on at least try to do something to look like a professional athlete...

how do you expect little kids to look up to you as a pro athlete when all they see are your big a*ss bellies

same goes for golfers...just a bunch of beer belly-fat guys taking big whacks at balls

An athlete is defined as "one who is trained or skilled in sports or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina". Baseball is a sport and pitching requires agility and stamina. It doesn't say you can't qualify as an athlete if you are fat. You say you watch a lot of football, and I am sure you would agree that there are more fat football players than fat baseball players. I don't believe you can take that quantum leap and say, if you are fat you can't be an athlete. Baseball is a game played by athletes at every position and pitching requires just as much athleticism as any other position on the field. By the way, golf is also a sport and those that play are also athletes, by definition.

I don't think that the pitchers aren't the athletes.

They often work very hard at training as pitch, bunt, and etc. They are more athlete because they have more velocity and strong arms and legs. They need the knowledge how to use the ball with their right sharp and move for throw the ball. The pitchers are very important on the team as can be very dangerous defense player than other positions as 1st base, 3rd base, SS, and 2nd base. All positions must be the athlete as can't be lazy or doing none during the game as can be bench as never pitch again.

Look at carlos zambrano, how is he not an athlete? He fields his position like nobody else, he hits bombs, he gets guys out, he plays with that emotion and uses it to his advantage.

It is not to say that all pitchers look like athletes, but it is not to say, that all pitchers arent athletes either.

Even Ted Lilly on the cubs, he may look bored when he plays, but he gets RBI's he has a 4 game hit streak, he even stole a base a few starts ago. haha

What are you talking about! All of them are athletic they throw the ball like 100mph for the most part on fastball and theres a lot of fit players Randy Johnson Jon Rauch Cliff Lee Fausto Carmona Dontrielle Willis and tons more the average pitcher is tall and skinny are you crazy! And of course there athletes they field and throw like any other player and if there in the NL they have to hit to and some of them are really good hitters like Mike Hampton Dontrielle Willis and CC Sabathia(in interleauge play)

pitchers are atheletes
they have very strong legs
and pitching is not something easy to do, def. when you have another major league hitter on the other side
and you don't know if they aren't good at other positions because all they do is pitch. they dont hit or anything because they are too valuable to get hurt
and you see diving plays by pitchers all the time
i dont know what you are talking about
you don't have to be skinny to be athletic

i think pitchers are athletes because:
- they shld have good cardio, they work the most in an inning
- they shld be mentally tough since take the most pressure for a team

regarding being overweight, i think theyve realized this. most of the new generation of pitchers now look fit.

You go out there and throw a 100 mile and hour fast ball and see what happens?
But you do have a point D-Lowe and Brad Penny got hurt trying to run to first base

You forgot Bob Wickman. I swear I see him in the bullpen eating donuts and ho-hos during the games. I don't know, they do have to be in decent shape (especially starters) to last as long as they do in games. Relievers tend to be a little more portly, don't know why just do. I'd say their athletes, at least the guys in the NL! They actually have to bat! Got those lazy bums up there in the AL thinking their too cool to swing a piece of wood! Pshh!
