1.) Exercise your brain. Do the crossword puzzle daily or engage it in some other sort of activity.

2.) Realize *why* you are studying. You aren't doing it to pass your next test. You are familiarizing yourself with a small stitch in a very large quilt. Dumb analogy, but know that what you learn on a subject can be valuable in many other areas.

3.) Get plenty of sleep. Without down time your brain ceases to work effeciently.

4.) Eliminate distractions, such as TV, iPod, cell phone, Y!A, etc.

5.) When in a lecture always sit at the front of the class. It sounds nerdy, but when I started doing this my grades increased dramatically.

The 30 - 2 method. Read or study for no more than 30 minutes and then take at least a 2 minute break (not over 5).

Practice concentration : Find any object and starting with 5 minutes and working up to 15 (slowly) stare at it (and just it) the entire time. You will be amazed how much longer you can then focus on something that is even remotely interesting or changing.

I know several people that have liked the results of taking a product called "Focus Factor" (check with your doctor before starting any new supplements)

Let your imagination work while reading and write down questions like "If that is true how does it explain things like?"

Eliminate obvious distractions like an interesting show on TV or music that you sing along with (soft distractions like classical musical in the background help some people).

Few things that will help you to CONCENTRATE your studies.

1] For sharpening your memory ability, start looking up words in specific subjects that you like, such as flowers, wine, cheese, or modern art. That way, you will easily expand your capacity to look for it, find it, buy it, eat it, drink it, and talk about it with some confidence. Write it down, there are thousands you need to know.

2] Choose a style of painting that appeals to you, so you can remember things easily by picture out things you need to remember fast. Be a painting lover.

3] Everyday, make a positive effort to call to mind some tricky problem you have solved. Try to remember both the problem and your solution in the greatest detail as you can. What was the insight that led you to this success? or how can you repeat it in other situations?

I do hope you follow this steps and i guaranteed that you'll be getting high grades. Many things will catch your eye, but only few will catch your heart... pursue those.

I have found that listening to classical music playing quietly in the background greatly increased my ability to concentrate for extended periods of time, particularly with difficult subjects, like chemistry and algebra.
You might also try meditating once a day. Take some time to quiet your mind and practice some prana breathing techniques. This method has helped countless people in the East to improve their concentration and mental discipline.
Lastly, try to find a place to study where you will be free of distractions. Hide your cell phone, or any other device that may distract you, in drawer or somewher where it won't distract you. If you are in a situation that makes it difficult to get privacy and quiet time alone, try the classical music suggestion with headphones.
Good luck, and good studies.
