I'm a 20 year old female who has never traveled by bus before. I will be traveling from San Antonio to Pensacola but will need to transfer in Houston. I know you can't take pepper spray on the bus so can anyone give me tips on how to be safe?
What should I expect?
Etc... Please and Thank you.

You can expect to be cramped, uncomfortable, hungry and tired the whole trip. The seats are uncomfortable and often the buses are crowded. How to be safe? Don't leave your bag unattended EVER. Keep up with your stuff. Don't wander about outside any bus terminal. As soon as the bus unloads, go directly inside and stay there. Houston Greyhound is in deep downtown Houston. There are panhandlers and homeless up and down the street, but they stay outside the terminal. I take it you are on an Express bus and Houston will be your biggest stop. Just stay inside, stay alert, and you will be okay. It is no worse than going anywhere downtown in a huge city like Houston. Oh, and use your head, don't be chatting people up. You are not going to see these people again; they don't need to know anything about you. Take along a good book and keep your nose in it.

GREYHOUND IS DANGEROUS I highly suggest you avoid
Greyhound at all costs,
their service is lousy they fill up the buses till full
then make you stand on the bus for hours on end,
sometime they don't tell the full Truth
(IE a friend was at a station the regular came though
packed to gills they are told on another bus will be along
shortly -shortly to them means 24 hours later!
several buses have caught fire
do NOT TAKE GREYHOUND IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE
other instances
the bus restrooms overflows
and the driver cant or doesn't do anything,,
other buses have broken down on the freeway and you
are told Greyhound cant send u a rescue bus because
they are not allowed to pick up local passenegrs!
you have to walk 3 miles to the station,,.

The buses are safe. If you can travel with some of your friend you might feel safer .You can talk to strangers but don't accept anything to eat . lock your luggage properly and in case you feel unsafe raise an alarm and take help from fellow passengers .As for your first bus travel enjoy the ride and don't worry too much.

Who says you can't take pepper spray? Well, then take MACE! You're far better off flying. Bus travel is cramped, uncomfortable, and smelly.

You should be all right.A few hours of being cramped up on a bus will make you violent enough to keep up with the best of them.

It depends on your street smarts. Just be aware of your surroundings and pay attention to others. If feel afraid take someone with you on your trip.
