Phoenix has its ghetto's and good parts like every other city. Los Angeles for example.. downtown is bad but orange county is good..
If u live in the bad parts then it can be dangerous but not too bad.. the good parts like where im at in chandler, scottsdale and gilbert, can be not dangerous at all

Phoenix is not dangerous if you are conscientious. Although there is some crime, you shouldn't have a problem if you have even the most basic street smarts, such as not to wander the streets alone at night.
I live about 20 miles outside of Phoenix and love it and have never felt unsafe. I get nervous traveling to Phoenix at night because I know there are some bad parts of town and I am not too familiar with the area, but the surrounding towns are wonderful and typically very safe. Tempe is great, if you are coming here for school.
The one tip I would give is to be careful on the road - there are some crazy drivers here. And, also, be prepared for the heat.
Don't worry about your safety, you'll be just fine.

Phoenix is like any other major US city. Put too many people together in one place and they get pissy sometimes. I just moved here from Orlando, FL and I can tell you that I'm liking it. The nice thing is that most people don't actually live in Phoenix, itself. There is so much urban sprawl here that the suburbs are practically part of the city. I live and work in Tempe which is great for me. A good split between middle class and college-aged students. The Valley puts higher education as a priority, so there are a lot of universities and thus, a lot of areas that are youth-oriented.

I drove here from Florida with my Mom in June. Had never seen Arizona, didn't know a soul, and had next to nothing in the back of my truck. All I was doing was following a job promotion and a whim. I miss home, but its not because of issues with Phoenix at all.

Okay don't get scared about the people saying it's ghetto and describing it as really bad, sure some parts seem really bad but that's mostly in the downtownish part. Around in the Glendale/Phoenix part is pretty tightt. yet there is some flaws and stuff. Lol sorry i really don't know how to explain all this, but yeah. Be sure to pack your shorts before you coming here cause as you know from some other people it's hella hot. Like in the 100's alot during the summer. The hottest it's been here so far was like 122. But don't let that scare you. Ahah. The highest it's been this summer was like 113 or 114. :P

Phoenix is a good town to live in with relatively low danger level. If you are going to school there you will have a blast. the college is great. So don't over think this. Its just like any other town. Stay alert and out of the bad parts of town and you'll be fine.

be prepared to have 110% concentration on the road and people around you, no offence to people living there but they have the worst drivers down there.

and be ready for 120 degree heat
