In fact, you "should" be able to but normal patch cable/straight-thru will not work in this manner. You need a cross over cable. Its still a RJ45 Cat-5 but wired different.

After that is hooked up, check to see that both systems are on the same workgroup.

You may need to assign static IPs (and make then unique) to each system - use something like:

IP 192.168.1.xxx (xxx= 2-254)
ie 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.3 192.168.1.4
Subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway and dns do not matter as you will not be connecting to the internet like this.

Hopefully this works, I will have to dig up the game to check lan settings when I get a chance.

On a side note... Thank you troops!

u need to set up the network before u can use it. visit the control panel's network connections and set up LAN via ethernet and make sure your ethernet drivers are installed and working.

the best place to ask that question is on command and conquer's web site, you would need to set the game up in the games setup. though some one on here may tell you how it is done.... or you could read the help files that come with the game

yes, it should work, if you set up a network connection between the computers. windows XP has a wizard to help you along.
