Need info on the portland, maine area.?

Question

Thinking of relocating and wondering what areas are nice to live for a first time home buyer. Looking for something nice but inexpensive and probably can't afford anything in the immediate metro area but am willing to commute up to about 45 minutes. Any ideas?

l live in portland l can tell you any thing you need to know, you can drive 45 minutes north of portland and housing is very cheap. west gardiner or augusta areas are very affordable.
