OK, I'll try some answers. yes, the metal their made of is soft as putty. you may be able to get a halfway decent one from a breakers (unlikely mind). your best bet is go to a Yamaha dealer and order a pair of new ones, due to wear on old one you could have alignment problems, not funny if it throws the chain and locks the wheel. best way to adjust them, make sure the wheel nut it properly loosened before adjusting snail cam.if the above don't do it for ya, add what you need to know.

1. purchase from yamaha dealer.
2. one on each end of axle behind the hexagons.
3. Shaped a little like a snail shell.
4. Bright zinc coated when new, white or rusty thereafter.
5. Has numbers stamped on it, adjust chain with both sides on the same number of indentation eg. No. 5 + 2 slots.
6. Adjust chain so you can see it in the chaincase window at bottom, just behind the engine it says "usable range" on it.
7. fit so the numbers go to the outside.
Can't think of any other possible question you should have asked.
