If killing someone is wrong, then it is wrong. CP is philosophically corrupt, because it makes killing people wrong only in some circumstances.

The US has some of the highest crime figure in the World. How has CP been a disincentive to commit crime. The current crime wave the UK is related to juveniles, and is clearly located in the destruction of the family. Best way of sorting out your policy mismanagement? Yeah bring back CP, and lets hang some kids like we did in the 17th century!!!

You do know of course then 70-80% of rapists, killers and child molesters come from dysfunctional families??? Start at the begining if you want to cure the problem, not at the end.

It will never happen in the UK, it has neven been proven that it works as a deterrent to crime. Its a very emotive issue, because when you hear of say a child being abducted and murdered, the call is for a return to hanging, but where do you stop. I have been there myself, baying for blood, but thats in the heat of the moment. There have been too many miscarriages of justice, where innocent people have been hanged for it to brought back. The judicial system should be one that punishes people who have committed a crime, according to the nature of that crime. I am aware like everyone else that doesn't always happen.
All terrorists who are proven to have maimed and killed innocent people should be sentenced to life imprisonment, and never come out, if we hang them doesn't that make us as bad as them or turn them into martyrs to their cause.
Ian Huntley should stay in jail for the rest of his life, I know the prison system is overburdened and costly, but we don't have an alternative.

Lawyers provide ostensibly convincing evidence that Capital Punishment is not deterrent to murder. Lawyers specialise in distortion of facts and they are able to earn gross fees at public expense by lodging nefarious appeals on behalf of those that should have been long hanged.

There is a case for reintroduction of the Death Penalty for the more extreme forms of murder (including causing death by an act of terrorism), treason and treachery. A cumulative points system such as is used for motoring offences would eliminate the cost of processing and supporting repeat offenders who could be hanged when it becomes apparent that there are hopeless burdens on society.

Before this is enacted, a Judicial Enquiry should be held into the conduct of Forensic Laboratories as they are subject to pressure from prosecuting authorities who are their main source of income.

First of all some states in the U.S. still have capital punishment. Second, Capitol punishment works very well for the greatest fear man-kind has is fear of the unknown, and what can be more unknown than death? Personally I believe capitol punishment should be used in more crimes than it is...

kill them!
when a evil-doer is killed by the hand of justice, it is right....it is fair.
the bible states the 10 commandments...and also the bible states to follow the law of your land.

Justice through the government is very necessary...i belive we should still impose a firing squad...an electric chair...torture tactics.
what use is a 40 year old child molester to the government....NONE!
Silly Americans wake up in the morning and bust their as*es all day so taxes can pay for some perve to live the good life.
if you kill....you should be killed
if you rape...you should be raped
if you steal....everything taken from you
if you dissagree with me...STFU !

most of you people out there who are crying.."2 wrongs don't make a right" obviously don't know the effectiveness of proper punishment...
and you are also the ones who let your children run all over you b/c "they dont know any better"....oh bull!
spare the rod..spoil the child !
eye for an eye...tooth for a tooth!

The trouble with capital punishment is, you can't bring a person back if eventually they are found innocent. However, we have no deterrent in this country against murder. I firmly believe that capitla punishment should be brought back for serial killers and paedophiles who kill their victims.

Yes definitely, CP should especially be there for rapists and terrorrists who kill so many innocent lives .

Though I am not much in favour of punishment per se and do feel that every person should be given a chance but such chances cannot be given to rapists and child molestors. I strongly feel that ppl who commit such insane crimes should be surely wiped out of our society and our system!

No. Enough people above have already given the reasons. However, I object to having my tax money used to give those, whose misdeeds cause misery for others, the easy life in jail. I have an idea and I'll put it up as a Q in a moment.

just take a look at the USA, there you still have capital punishment. and in some military regimes, also.

you've got innocent men dying, and guilty men dying, but their victims are still dead.

and now, the real good question: what for should there be cp?

rape?
murder?
paedophile?
disobedience?
different points of view?
theft?

I'm for punishment, and taking responsibilities, but I'm not for the CP, because in the end - you are made a murder by sentencing somebody else to death.
and I won't be a murder.

It's often said that capital punishment is a deterrent to crime, yet there's not one shred of evidence that this is so. People still commit murders. Capital punishment is not about justice. It is about vengeance. I do not believe in capital punishment under any circumstances. Killing is killing. Just because someone commits a murder, does that give the state the right to kill that person? I don't think so.
