The Philippines is having the hardest time finding solution to every problems she had over the last 27 years after Edsa revolution, I for one have thought that our forefathers made a mistake asking for independence from the United States then, for sure no Filipinos would ever work in any country as domestic helpers or laborers because we are part of the US territory, some will say we have to revolt and ask for independence from the US because of the abuses they made, but are we not being abused by our own people? Are we not working as slaves in other countries just to earn dollars? I donot know who coined the words that "it is better that the Philippines is run like hell by the Filipinos rather than run like heaven by the Americans" I think the prediction came true. (note) if you are not a Filipino, don't answer this, just a suggestion

That quotation was of Manuel Quezon. If the Philippines is to see real progress in the next 10 years then the I think the government and the people should be more serious regarding change. I really doubt the next ten years but I'm hopeful to it.
Our statesmen in my opinion are capable enough for the job it's just they get corrupted by power. There's so much to be done in this country, so much work that the energy of some who are enforcing changes are eventually drained without seeing their work noticed by their countrymen.
Our people in my opinion haven't achieved yet the true sense of unity- it's like we're living our everyday lives without innovating, expecting the world would still be the same in a day or two, accepting that we have an able nation, a unified people, a solid government, a peace-loving state where in fact not, none of these are real it's just an assumption and we're gladly happy about it.
We must have that undeterred determination to achieve a highly competitive society. And I think we miss something really vital in raising our citizens, to awaken such drive early in their age. I'm not certain if our education is to be blame or is it our culture, but I think the our resolve should come hand-in-hand (tru education and culture). Certainly, I think the family being the center of the Filipino society has something to offer too, I have known families where their parents never miss to remind their child how important it is to grow competitive and proud, and the result is quiet worthy to be noted. Maybe the future generations would initiate real change, we just have to prepare the field for them for the meantime. Change could be a lifelong process and theres nothing wrong with it, It's funny how some leaders create some number point agenda expecting their initiatives to be achieved in given amount of time, without considering that it should be a long term goal able to endure time and transition of power.
PS. Regional superiority makes me sick of this country(I hope you know what I mean), it's ok for each of us to keep that pride but i think let's just make to a point that won't cause the other groups to be demoralized or to be enraged because by a worthless fuss. We are raised to be regionalistic in nature (proven by our history), maybe we can do something about this in this modern age, maybe we can stop nagging each other for a while and set our focus in achieving our unified pride rather on our own shortcomings.

The Philippines will not prosper (per say) in the next 10 years because our people keep voting in to office, the same kind of people.
People who do nothing while they are in office except put money in their pockets and let the Philippines and our people get poorer and run down.
The people here complain because the roads are bad, there are no jobs, education is a joke, medical here is a bigger joke.
Yet just before election time the people in office will put a fresh coat of paint on everything to make it look good and the people who have complained will vote for them to stay in office. So nothing changes. And again for the next 4 years the country and people run down, and at election time it all starts over again.
Instead of trying to make the Philippines better, our government incourages the Filipino to work in another country, leave their families (wife/husband and children) earn the money send it back here to the families and then when it is time for them to retire, COME HOME! BRING YOUR DOLLARS IN YOUR OLD AGE AND LIVE YOUR LAST YEARS IN YOUR MOTHER LAND OF BEAUTY.
Our women are thought of as whores all over the world, and our men are thought of as lazy by the world.
Yet when we try to better ourselves, our own people turn against us and try to pull us down again to their level.
Our own people who leave to go to another country help in this lie of (milk and honey) they tell everyone here in the Philippines how great they are living when in fact they must rent out rooms in their house just to pay the bills.
They tell the people of the other countries where they are working how they love family and can't wait to go back and retire in the Philippines, when in fact the only reason they want to come back is because they will not be able to live in America on their retirement.
Lies, lies and more lies is what the fairy tell of the Philippines is based on.
Loving ones country is fine, but the most important thing is take care of ourself and family and try to keep from dying of hunger and dehydration.
Until we elect persons who are honest and sincere and be willing to put in jail those who steal food from the mouths of the children, and we are willing to stand and be heard, will the Philippines have a chance to even "think about" prospering.

Doubtful unless there are some very fundamental changes in the way society conducts itself.
Basically, Filipino society is one of entitlement - and that's built into the constitution. This needs to change and the poor majority need to learn just how to assert themselves.
It's a pity - a country of such creativity and beauty being wasted by 400 rich families/clans.

Big NO, it takes more years for the Philippines to prosper.
Unless we get rid of those Traditional Politicians or "TraPos".
Look, how many TraPos senators we have right now.
wink-wink
