If the Tigger pitchers had fielded better, it would have been a much closer Series -- I cannot say they'd have won, but it wouldn't have been so lopsided, because the 2006 Tigers were a GOOD team, and the 2006 Cardinals, um, were not, just got hot and lucky at the right time. (Not to sneeze at getting hot and lucky; great things to have, just not reliable.)
But, that sort of thing happens in baseball.

The Cards won because they stepped it up in the postseason and took it to the Mets and Tigers. The Tigers lost because of inexperience. Too many young players that didnt know how to throw the ball from the pitcher's mound to first base. You can't say that the Cardinals were worse because the best of 7 series is in place to make sure that the best team wins. The Cardinals were clearly better during that series.

Cards were VERY hot going in, just look at an otherwise mediocre Eckstein, Weaver, Rolen, Reyes and Suppan turning it up BIGTIME in the world series. Plus, I think the Tigers had bigtime nerve problems, as we saw with the young pitching staff and infielders making elementary mistakes they hadn't made all year, (Rodney, Zumay, Verlander, Inge, etc) while the veterans like Rogers did fine.

yeah they shouldve won. the cards are not a great team, just a good team who were able to capitalize on detroits mistakes. and they had plenty of mistakes. this year if they can keep the errors down they should be able to go all the way. between maggs, sheff, and grandersons bats, inges glove, pudges ability, and pitching they should be fine. the only thing i would say they need is some relief pitching. they should utilize their farm systems talent and get someone like gagne or lidge. they lost lee gardner from AAA to the marlins and thats a shame as hes doing a great job for them. so this year they should learn from last year and go all the way

no, the angels dont make me cringe... you arent gonna psyche me out with that angels junk, and i doubt the tigers are not very scared either.... ya, the tigers were a better team last year than the cards.. the cards got lucky and the tigers made mistakes... but dont you worry, they wont make the same misstakes again. it was a learning experience for a later time...simple as that..

On paper, they should have won. But as the old saying goes, "That's why they play the games."
